Farmer, John Kennedy, John 1775 1. 10 May 1760 - JOHN RATCLIFF 140 Dobbs on the N side of Neuse River and on the east side of Falling Creek, joining MANNING’s and HERRING’s line, beginning at a hickory, running N degrees 60 East 100 poles, thence N degrees 158 pole, then S 55 W 95 pole to a pine, thence S degrees 80 Degrees W 100 poles, thence S degrees 20 degrees E 60 poles then to the first station. Signed ARTHUR DOBBS 2. FROM PAPERS OF MAJOR AND NANCY HARDEE - these appear to be notes taken from original deeds although neither the grantor nor the grantee is indicated. Dated 1774 - 124 acre deed - beginning at a sweet gum and runs North 69 E 150 poles to a sweet gum then due S degrees 140 pole to a white oak thence due W 84 pole to a pine then S degrees 55 W 70 pole then to the first station. 30 acre deed - Begins at a post oak and runs S degrees 25 W 62 pole then S degrees 72 W 44 pole then S degrees 88 W 70 pole to WALTER KENNEDIES line then with his line S degrees 16 W 31 pole to a gum MAJOR HARDEE’s corner then with his line to the begin. 7 acre deed - Beg at a watter oak in his own line and runs S degrees 39 E 28 pole to a pine then S degrees 74 Est 16 pole to a pine an old clay hold then S degrees 65 Est 32 pole to a hickory then a direct line to the begin 3. CHECK WITH ORIGINAL - almost not readable - 30 December 1774 - JOHN FARMER of the County of ???? in the province of North Carolina, blacksmith, and JOHN KENNEDY of the County of Dobbs in the province aforesaid, planter, in the sum of twenty pounds paid by JOHN KENNEDY, sell a certain tract lying on the North side of the Nuce on both sides of ??? pocason in Dobbs County beginning at a stake ????? 125 acres including buildings, orchards, gardens, timber trees ….. WIT JOHN RATCLIFF, ?? Presented at Court 1775 upon the afformation of JOHN RATCLIFF HE BEING ONE OF THE PEOPLE CALLED QUAKERS.
