Geren Seeks Information on Duel Learning of an ancestor who was killed in a duel was a surprise to Atty. L. L. Geren of Groesbeck, whose letter concerning the Gerens appeared recently in "Family Trees." "His opponent was also killed." Geren writes, "And now, I would like to know where the duel occurred and what the controversy concerned." Mr. Geren also received a reply from a distant cousin who read the query and had done considerable research on the family. We appreciate his sharing the results of his search with us. Mrs. Maxine Hayes from Oklahoma City needs some help from Texas. She is working on a family tree for the attorney general of Oklahoma, Larry D. Derryberry. Her project will be on display at the Oklahoma State Fair genealogy booth and she hopes to locate a marriage record for the official's grandparents, Filmore and Emma Waltz Derryberry who were wed in 1891, place unknown. They lived in Honey Grove and are buried there, but apparently death certificates are not available either. She hoped to hear from a Texas descendant who might have researched the family. MRS. J. W. GENTRY of Henderson asks a Mr. Johnson who taught at East Texas State University in Commerce in 1968 to contact her so they can compare notes on the Griggs family of North Carolina and Texas. Cora Brewer of Oklahoma City asks for information about her Uncle Marion Crumpler who once lived near Whitewright, Tom Bean or Bonham. He died in the 1930's. Virginia Jimenez of Oklahoma City wishes to locate descendants of Solomon M. and Margaret Grisby who moved from Alabama to Rusk County in 1843. Their children included: Jane (Kinche Baldwin), Charles (Marinda Sparks), George (Hanah Mixon), Rachael (J. M. Lockridge), Arthur (Mary Ann Sewel) and Ira (Dehlah Hinesly). The family also has three other children, but their names are unknown. Charline Brown of Seminole, Okla. asks data about Milton and Mary Pinkston who are buried in Whiterock Cemtery near Bonham. They came from Hoovers Gap, Tennessee to Texas and had a daughter named either Pearl or Elizabeth. Mrs. Vinia Russell Martin of Oklahoma City will exchange information with descendants of Reverend Russell, father of Nelson A. Russell, father of Nelson A. Russell, born 1842 in Morgan County, Ohio. He served in the Union Army and married Rebecca Morris Krewson born 1841. MRS. ELECTRA PEARSON of Ranger would like to hear from someone researching her Pearson line. Her ancestor, Peter Pearson came from Cumberland County, England to Nansemond County, Virginia around 1701. She would like the names of his parents, wife, and to know where he was born. James S. Stanley, Jr. of Dallas is searching for the origin and ancestors of Sands Stanley, born 1742 and died 1796-1799, in Darlington County, South Carolina. He had lived in Dobbs County previously. One of his descendants, Sarah Allston Stanley, born in 1826, married William Hunter in South Carolina and moved to Texas. They had two daughters, Carey and Mary. According to DAR records, Mary Allen Files McCormick traced her descendants back to Sands Stanley "through his daughter, Sarah." Mr. Stanley asks anyone familiar with this line to write him.
