All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Old Dobbs Gen Soc n/a December 25, 2007, 4:45 pm William Boyd – He was born March 26, 1754 in Dobbs County, NC and while residing in Guilford County, NC he enlisted and served as a private with the North Carolina Troops as follows: from the fall of 1776, six months in Captain John Walker’s Company, Colonel Francis Nash’s Regiment, and was in an engagement at Widow Moore’s Creek; from the fall of 1778, three months in Captain Nathaniel Williams’ Company, Colonel James Martin’s Regiment; went on an expedition against the Cherokee Indians and was in a severe skirmish; three months in Captain Thomas Flack’s Company, Colonel Archibald Lytle’s Regiment and was in the battle of Brier Creek; three months in Captain John Buster’s Company, Colonel John Pacely’s Regiment; two months in Captain James Taylor’s Company of Horse, under Major James Stinson; three months in Captain John Morgan’s Company and was in an engagement at the Cherokee Ford of the Catawba River; three months in Captain Samuel Johnson’s Company of Rangers under Major Hardgraves and Colonel Elisha Isaacs; no dates are given for any of these last above noted services. He was also a member of a company of militia during the whole war and was frequently called out on alarms for short tours and had several skirmishes with the Tories. He was allowed pension on his application executed September 17, 1832 while residing in Barren County, Kentucky and died March 21, 1839.
