While residing in Dobbs County he enlisted July 22, 1775 and served as a private and corporal in Captains Thomas Lynch and Glen Drayton’s Company under Colonel Charles Pinckney in the South Carolina Troops, and was in one engagement (name of engagement not stated) and was discharged August 4, 1778. He again enlisted, date not given, and served as a substitute for Joshua Grantham (relationship not shown) as Sergeant Major in Captain John Kennedy’s Company, Colonel William Caswell’s North Carolina Regiment and was in the battle of Brier Creek, length of this service five months. After the Revolution he moved to Hawkins County, TN and then to Grainger County, TN. He was allowed pension on his application executed August 21, 1832 while residing in Grainger County. He died June 22, 1846. He married April 14, 1784 in Hawkins County, Frances, the daughter of Thomas and Alice Amic. Frances was born April 16, 1763. Soldier’s widow, Frances, was allowed pension on her application executed October 16, 1846 while residing in Grainger County and she was still living in 1855.
