The document was a grant for 200 acres of land in Dobbs County, afterwards partitioned into Lenoir, Wayne, Greene and other counties, to Philip Stone. It bears the signatures of Arthur Dobbs, "Captain-General and Governor-in-Chief;" R. D. Caswell and Thomas Rutherford, secretary to the Governor. The seal of the Crown is stamped on beeswax. All the writing and printing is clearly legible. The old instrument is highly valued.
