Transcribed by Sloan Mason The Honorable the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina The Memorial of Kenan LOVE of Duplin county, on behalf of himself and others Humbly Sheweth, That in the year 1781 Cap't James LOVE (father of your memorialest) with Several Men of his company on their way home from the State of South Carolina were informed that the British troops had Sunk a brass piece of Cannon, (a double fortifyed Six pounder) into a Creek which they went in Search of, found, prised up and took with them to General LILLINGTONS Camp on the No. East of Capefear river as their own property, and it was there deem'd as such until the death of said Captain LOVE, after which it was taken to Kinston and there sold for the benefit of the State. Your Memorialest therefore Humbly request that your Honourable body will take the Case into consideration and make Such allowance as you in your Wisdom may think Just and your Memorialist as in duty bound &c Kenan LOVE Jan'y 9th 1795 On reverse: Report of the Committee of Claims in the pet. of Kenan LOVE. Dec. 1794 - 1795. The Committee of Claims, to whom was referred the Petition of Kenan LOVE.
