WILLIAMS (Freed children of Cherry JARMAN) INDENTURE OF APPRENTICESHIP State of North Carolina Duplin County This Indenture, Made the tenth day of April, 1866, between H. H. FOSTER, Assistant Superintendent Bureau of R. F. and A. L. for the Counties of Duplin and Sampson, NC of the one part, and Albert F. WILLIAMS of the other part; Witnesseth, That the said H. H. FOSTER doth put, place and bind unto the said Albert F. WILLIAMS, Six freed children named: Susan aged 13 years Diana, aged 10 years Jonas, aged 8 years Laura, aged 6 years Eliza, aged 4 years Joshua, aged 2 years Bound because their mother is an imbecile and incapable of caring for them. to live after the manner of apprentices and servants until the said apprentices shall attain the age of twenty one years; during all which time the said apprentices their master faithfully shall serve and his lawful commands everywhere obey. And the said Albert F. WILLIAMS doth covenant, and promise, and agree that he will teach and instruct the said apprentices or cause them to be taught or instructed to read and write; and that he will constantly find and provide for said apprentices during the term aforesaid, sufficient diet, washing, lodging and apparel, fitting for apprentices and also all other things necessary, both in sickness and health. In witness whereof the parties to these presents have set their hands and seals, the day and year above written. H. H. FOSTER, (Seal) A. F. WILLIAMS (Seal) State of North Carolina Duplin Co. April 3rd, 1866 Personally appeared before me, Daniel J. RIVENBARK, an acting Justice of the Peace for the County of Duplin, State of North Carolina, Owen B. MORISSEY who taketh oath that he is personally acquainted with Cherry JARMON ( a freed woman) and knows her to be unable to provide for her children and further taketh oath that the said Cherry JARMON is incapable of managing or taking care of her children. This Deponent further deposes that the said Cherry JARMON has Eight Chilfen. A. B. MORISEY Sworn to and Subscribed before me this 3rd day of April A. D. 1866. Daniel J. RIVENBARK, J. P.
