Dated: 10 April 1752, and in the Twenty Sixth year of the Reign of Our Lord Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain, France and England, King Defender of the Faith. Trans: 20 pounds "Current money of Virginia" for 100 acres. On the North side of Goshen Swamp and on the East side of a Branch thereof known by the name of Hall's Marsh. Land was partof a tract of 550 acres granted to Richard Malpos bearing date, 4 February 1747. Witness: John Dickson (Deed begins on page 172 and is concluded on page 178). Deed was proven 10 April 1753. State of NC, Duplin Co. Abstract of Deed by HRG Book 5, page 399. Hugh Grimes to James Grimes. (his son). Dated: 15 October 1777, and in the Second year of the Independence of the United States of America. Trans: 100 pounds for 620 acres of land in four tracts. First tract consisted of 180 acres. On the North side of Goshen Swamp and on the East side of a branch thereof, known by the name of Hall's Marsh. Land was part of 550 acres granted to Richard Malpos by patent in 1747. Second tract consisted of 100 acres, on the West side of Halls Marsh, Hooker's Marsh and Malures line. Land was part of 550 acres granted to John Sullivan by patent dated 29 April 1767. Third tract consisted of 190 acres on the North side of Goshen Swamp and on the West side of Halls Marsh, joining lines of Joseph Grimes and John Winders. Land was granted to William Pierce by patent, dated 4 May 1769 and conveyed by him to Hugh Grimes. Fourth tract consisted of 150 acres, on the North side of Goshen Swamp and on the West side of Halls Marsh, opposite to his plantation. Deed mentions Richard Malpos, "a meadow", and a small branch. Land was the upper part of 250 acres granted to the said Hugh Grimes by patent dated, 19 April 1763. Witnessed: William Dickson and John Winder. State of NC, Bertie Co. Abstract of Deed by HRG Book K, pages 409 & 410. Willis Grimes and wife Elizabeth to Joshua Peele of N. Hampton Co. NC. Dated: 3 August 1764. 300 acres for 90 pounds. On the head of Watson Swamp to Williams Whitfield's former corner, containing 300 acres more or less. Signed by Willis Grimes and Elizabeth (X her mark) Grimes. Deed was acknowledged in due form of law by Willis Grimes and Sarah Grimes, his wife. Registered: John Johnson, Clerk of Court. State of NC, Duplin Co. Abstract of Deed by HRG Book 1, pages 6 & 7. George Bell, Jr. (Planter) to Willis Grimes (Planter) of Bertie Co. NC. Dated: 9 October 1764. 213 acres for 45 pounds of Proclamation money. Land granted to George Bell, Sr. patent bearing date 10 April 1752. At a place called the Beaver Dam branch out of the East side Run's Swamp to a red oak between Benjamin Bell's and said George Bell's line. Again back to Beaver Dam Swamp and up the water course to William Bird's line including cottages, buildings, orchards and gardens. Signed: George Bell State of NC, Duplin Co. Abstract of Deed by HRG Book 5, pages 10 & 11. Willis Grimes ( Ship Wright ) to Amelia Ivey. Dated: 3 March 1774. 100 acres for 32 pounds and ten shillings (L32.10.) Land lying in Duplin Co. on the West side of Beaver Dam Swamp to the mouth of Gum Branch. Land being granted unto the said Willis Grimes by patent dated 11 December 1770. Dated: 5 January 1776. 388 acres for 125 pounds. Portion of the land by patent to me Willis Grimes, dated 7 December 1769. Beaver Dam Swamp at the mouth of Little Branch, up little branch, up to Amelia Ivey's line, down the Beaver Dam Swamp that meanders into Six Runs. Witnessed: Roger Snell and R. Blackman. West side of North East Branch of the Cape Fear River and on the South side of Persimmon Swamp between Rutherford's and McIntire's line, being the contents of a patent granted to James Gillespie bearing date 22 July 1774, then conveyed to James Lockhart, then conveyed to William Grimes. Tract of land on south side of Goshen Swamp and on the West side of Grimes Mills Branch, being part of a parcel of land that was laid off by a committee appointed by the Courts of Duplin Co. for ascertaining his share of his deceased fathers property. Charles Grimes, (a Planter) of the County of Orange and the State of South Carolina to Amos Johnston of the County of Duplin, State of North Carolina for good cause and consideration in that Charles Grimes is moving. Dated: 5 March 1808. 180 acres for 160 dollars. James Grimes and his wife Sarah Grimes, Elisah Jones and his wife Catherine, George Oadham and his wife Elizabeth to Lewis Grimes, deed 180 acres on Little Mill Branch and Griffith Branch being a part of a survey of 640 acres granted to John Winders, Sr, deceased and fell by heirship to said James Grimes and wife Sarah and her sisters, Catherine and Elizabeth, whereas, Lewis Grimes has produced a deed of Conveyance, of 1808, made to him from James Grimes and Sarah Grimes, etc., the Court ordered on 28 February 1828 that John Watkins and Bryan Kornegay proceed to question Sarah, Catherine and Elizabeth and got written testimony after private examinations they did upon there own free will sign said deed of 1808 to Lewis Grimes. James Grimes to Levin Waller. Dated: 12 April 1827. 170 acres for 600.00 dollars. North side of Goshen Swamp and east side of Hall's Marsh beginning at white oak on Swimson's line along Solomon Jones line to the dead of Pearce's Branch. James Grimes, Sr. to Isaac Grimes for and in consideration of the natural love and affection I have for my son, Isaac Grimes, I give to him, 253 acres (2 tracts) of land, one being on the north side of Goshen Swamp on Hooker's Marsh, 167 acres. Another beginning on Huckleberry Branch reserving to himself and wife, Sarah for a lifetime, a middle field between Hooker's Marsh and Pearce's Branch with a path to and from.
