Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part & James HARRELL of the same place & state of the other part. Witnesseth that the said James HARRELL in consideration of the Sum of Sixty dollars to him in hand paid before the sealing & delivering of these presents the recipe whereof is hereby acknowledged & therewith satisfied & hath by these presents — Granted, conveyed & forever settler to the said David SLOAN a certain parcel of Land lying & being in said County & South side of Is. Creek & West side of the N. East River beginning at a Hornbeam? at the run of Island Creek thence along Norris’s line S 20 E 28 poles to a Stump the 1st Corner of N ! thence S 30 poles to a Stake the last corner of Lot No. #1 thence S 60 E 25 poles to a Stake, thence S 25 E 22 poles, thence S 40 poles to a pine at the run of Poley Bridge Branch, thence down the run S 85 E 20 poles to a Gum in SLOAN’S line, then his line N 15 E 112 poles to a Holly at the run of Island Creek, then up the said run to the beginning Containing Forty one acres be the same more or less. To have & to hold to the said David SLOAN the before mentioned parcel of Land with all the appurtenances & names thereunto belonging doth covenant & agree to Warrant, secure & forever defend the before mentioned Land & premises with all its appurtenance thereunto belonging with the exception of the Dower claim, to him the said David SLOAN his heirs & assigns forever against the lawful claims of all persons with the exception of the before mentioned Claim. In witness whereof the said James HARRELL doth hereunto set his hand & affix his seal the day & year above written. Signed, sealed & delivered in presence of Dempsey HARRELL, William NEWTON.
