PICKETT of Duplin Co., NC - 300 Acres 15 Dec 1827 This Indenture made the fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & Twenty Seven between Amos ROCHELLE, Jr & wife Sarah ROCHELLE & Ann LANIER of the one part of the State aforesaid & County of Duplin of the other part. Witnesseth that we the said Amos ROCHELLE, Jr. & wife Sarah ROCHELLE & Ann LANIER for & in consideration of the sum of Four Hundred & Fifty dollars to us in hand paid by the said Wm. PICKETT the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained sold set over & forever confirmed unto the said Wm. PICKETT his heirs & assigns a certain tract or parcel of land situate & being in the County of Duplin on the East side of North East River & North side of Cypress Creek containing Three Hundred acres be the same more or less formerly granted to John ANERAM? Beginning at a Red Oak near the edge of COX’S Swamp & runs S 65 E 103 poles to a Water Oak the said Wm. PICKET’S corner thence his line N 25 E 108 poles to a pine his corner, thence his other line S 65 E 150 poles to a Bay in the Patent line, thence along that line N 25 E 145 poles to a pine thence the other Patent line N 65 W 153 poles to a Stake in Hollingsworth’s Swamp S 25 W 153 poles to the beginning. To him the said Wm. PICKETT his heirs & assigns to have & to hold the above described Land & premises with all & singular the rights & appurtenances to the same belonging or in anywise appertaining & we the said Amos ROCHELLE, Jr. & wife Sarah ROCHELLE & Ann LANIER do hereby warrant & forever defend the said Land & Premises to him the said Wm. PICKETT his heirs & assigns free & clear from the Claim of us our heirs or assigns & from & against the just Lawful & just claim or claims of all & another person or persons whatsoever (public Taxes only hereafter excepted as they become due). In witness whereof we the said Amos ROCHELLE, Jr. & wife Sarah ROCHELLE & Ann LANIER have hereunto set our hands & Seals, day & date first above written. A. PICKETT, Daniel (his X mark) RAINER Duplin County, May Term 1829 There was the within Deed accompanied by the Commission & Examination proved in Open Court by the Oaths of Frederick PICKETT & Daniel RAINER & ordered to be registered. Test: Jas. PEARSALL, Clk. State of North Carolina Duplin County To Hosea LANIER & Jas. WILLIAMS, Greeting Whereas Wm. PICKETT hath produced a Deed of Conveyance made to him from Amos ROCHELLE & Sarah his wife of a certain tract or parcel of Land lying & being in the County of Duplin in the State of North Carolina & procured the same to be proved by the said Hosea & James in the Court of Peas & Quarter Sessions for the County aforesaid & it being & it being represented to our said Court that Sarah ROCHELLE his wife of the said Amos ROCHELLE is so that she cannot travel to the Court of our said County, to be privily examined as to her free consent in executing the said Conveyance . Therefore, we command you or any two of you, that at such certain day & place as you shall think fit, you go to the said Sarah if she cannot conveniently come to you, & privily & apart from her husband examine her the said Sarah, whether she executed the said Conveyance freely & of he down accord, without fear or compulsion of the said Amos ROCHELLE her husband. And the examination being distinctly & plainly written on the said Deed or on some paper annexed thereto & when you shall have so taken the said examination You are to send the same closed up under the seals of your or any two of you, together with this writ, unto our said Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions to beheld for the County of Duplin, at the Court House in Duplin on the 4th Monday of May next.
