G. STOKES both of Duplin Co., NC - 407 acres 1st July 1841 This Indenture made 1st day of July in the year of Our Lord A.D. 1841. between Gibson SLOAN of the State of North Carolina & the County of Duplin of the one part & James G. STOKES of the same State & County aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Gibson SLOAN for & in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars in hand paid by the said James G. STOKES, the recipe whereof is hereby acknowledged that the said Gibson SLOAN have bargained sold & delivered by these presents do bargain sell deliver set over forever confirm unto the said James G. STOKES a certain tract or parcel of land situate lying & being on the County of Duplin & in the W side of Farrior’s Creek & bounded as follows, beginning at a stake on the run of Farrior’s Creek & on the S edge of the Main Road & runs therein with said road S 59 W 110 poles to a stake thence with the road S 67 W 184 poles to a pine thence S 10 E 123 poles to a pine thence S 25 E 160 poles to a Cypress on the run of Goff’s Beaver Dam thence up the run of said Beaver Dam to the run of Merritt’s Mill Creek & up said run N 30 W 150 poles to a Maple at the mouth of Peg’s Marsh thence up the run of said Marsh a course nearly N 26 W 260 poles to a Black Gum at the main Road thence up the run said Marsh or branch N 15 W 18 poles N 62 poles to a Gum N 50 W 10 poles to a pine thence S 70 W 52 poles to a pine HALL’S corner thence with Hall’s line N 80 poles to a pine in a pond thence S 76 E 188 poles to a pine thence N 36 E 178 poles to a stake at the head of a small branch thence down the run of said branch a course nearly N 30 E 60 poles to a small Gum on the run of DOUGLAS’S branch now Needham BRYAN’S ditch thence down said run to the beginning containing four hundred & seven acres be the same more or less to have & to hold the aforesaid lands & premises together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him the said James G. STOKES his heirs & assigns forever & the said Gibson SLOAN will warrant & forever defend the aforesaid lands & premises from him his heirs executors admr.s & assigns from the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons from any encumbrances whatsoever unto the said James G. STOKES to his own proper use & behoof in fee simple. In witness the said Gibson SLOAN have hereunto set his name & affixed his seal the day & date above written.
