T. STANFORD- Mortgage 25 Nov 1842 State of North Carolina County of Duplin This Indenture made on the 25th day of November in the year or our Lord One thousand eight hundred & forty two between Dickson SLOAN & Gibson SLOAN of the County & State aforesaid of the one part & Alex T. STANFORD of the same State & County of the other part-Witnesseth that the said Dickson & Gibson SLOAN for & in consideration of the sum of Two thousand five hundred dollars the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained & sold by these presents do bargain & sell to the said Alexander T. STANFORD our lot in the town of Kenansville County & State aforesaid lying & being in the S. W. quarter of said town Beginning on the main Street & running thence with said street S 15 W 145 feet hence N 95 W 180 ft. thence N 15 E 105 feet - thence S 95 S 180 feet to the first station. Also one other lot joining the above beginning at a stake in the village lane at C. thence S 50 W 180 ft. thence N 13 W 192 then as S 95 E 187 feet to & with the village line to the beginning with the appurtenances thereunto belonging and we the said Dickson & Gibson SLOAN do warrant & defend the right & title of the above described town lot & their improvement & the Household furniture aforesaid unto the said Alexander T. STANFORD his heirs & assigns forever. The condition of the above deed is such that whereas the said Dickson & Gibson SLOAN are justly in dented to the said Alex T. STANFORD in the sum of Five thousand five hundred dollars due by four several notes of Six hundred & twenty five dollars with interest from date & made payable every six twelve eighteen & Twenty four months from the date of the instrument as by reference to the rites? will more fully appear & whereas the said Dickson & Gibson SLOAN are deserves of securing the payment thereof to the said Alex T. STANFORD. Now therefore if the said Dickson & Gibson SLOAN shall pay off fully the said notes & interest then this indenture & every part & clause thereof shall be void, otherwise to remain in full force and effect.
