CHESTNUT to J. WELLS -100 acres This Indenture made this fourth day of March A. D. 1842 between Dickson SLOAN and Duncan CHESTNUT o the one part & Jacob WELLS o the other part, all of the county of Duplin & State of North Carolina witnessed the the said D. SLOAN & D. CHESTNUT for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred & fifty dollars to them in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have bargained & sold & by these presents do bargain & sell, set over & confirm unto Jacob WELLS, a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the County of Duplin situated on the Cat-tail Marsh his own by the name of the Old Williams Mill, beginning at pine on the N side of the Marsh thence running S 135 poles to a pine formerly, Joshua BLAKES corner by the path thence N 60 E 136 poles to a stake near the fence thence N 51 S 51 poles to a short leaf pine in the S edge of the swamp thence across the swamp below the old Mill N 42 1/2 S 36 poles to a stake Jacob WELLS & Joseph SELLER’S corner, thence with SELLER’S line N 61 W 42 poles to a pine over a small branch upon the hill thence to he beginning containing by estimation one hundred acres of land be the same more or less to have & to hold the above described land & premises with all that in any wise appertains thereunto & we the said Dickson SLOAN & Duncan CHESTNUT for ourselves our heirs Exec’rs and Admr’s & Assigns do forever warrant & defend the right & title of the said land & premises free from the lawful claim or claims of all manner of persons whatsoever unto the said Jacob WELLS to him his heirs Exec’r, Admr. & assigns forever.
