                                  December 24th 1861
Dear Mother

       I have got Frank to go for my share of the property
as the weather Is so cold. and my health Is so bad.  I
expect to come up In the spring.  You must come home with
him If you possibly can.  The children are all well at
present.  I would not be surprised If Jack and Bill were
taken to the wars pretty soon.  Now Mother, If you will come
with Frank, I will be sure and go home with you In the
spring.  The children want to see you very much.  I send
you a black calico dress.  It is the best I can do until I
see you.  I close by sending my best love to all, you in
particular.

envelope or name of town from which sent. From information
I have, I am sure it was mailed or sent by someone from
Montgomery, Texas.
