Duplin County, NC - William Grimes Papers ¤¤¤¤¤¤ Mobile, Nov. 27th 1892 Mr. Wm. S. Grimes, Arleston, Panola Co., Txs, Dear Brother: Your letter came to hand some weeks ago, but I have not had. an opportunity of answering you. You must not think my tardiness is intentional, for it is not. I was quite sick some four weeks ago but am up 'tho' not strong and well. I hope Annieliza has fully recovered her health. You have indeed had a great trouble with your bereavement, and then having so many of your family sick. But let us trust God, his ways are wise and his mercy endureth forever. I am glad that you mentioned cousin Lawrence. Am very sorry that he is so poor. Has he no children to help him? What has become of his deaf and dumb son? I would like to have you to write me about Isaac and Amanda Johnston and tell me about Frank. Whether he is still living or not. Powell Johnston's family turned out badly. Not many weeks ago there was a young fellow arrested here as a dangerous and suspicious character, who said he was from Houston, Txs. and gave his name as Oscar Johnston. I can't recall his alias. Do you know of any such person? James Boswell, one of Laura's sons, is in Houston Is at work in a mill there. If you should go there, seek him out, he is a nice boy, and you will like him. We will be very sorry if you do not visit us this winter. If you come be sure to bring Bertie with you. I wish so much to see you both. Benton's wife is just the same, the rest are well. Our relations are all well as far as I know. My live to all your daughters and enquiring relations. Tell Bertie I am very anxious to see her. In fact I would like to see them all, but am too old ever to get far from home, therefore shall never visit them. Your sister, M. E. Taylor. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
