Duplin County, NC - William Grimes Papers ¤¤¤¤¤¤ Note: This Is a copy of a letter to Wm. S. Grimes, ArleBton, Texas, from Carrie Horton Boswell. Bigbee, Alabama Feb. 17th, 1895 My Dear Uncle: Your letter received and was very glad to hear from you. I ought to have answered it sooner and hope you will forgive my tardiness. It is very wet and disagreable as it has rained all the week. My youngest brother, Benton, was to be married last night but don*t know yet whether he was or not. We all didn't get to go as it was too far to go through the rain. He was to marry one of sister Loula's husband's nieces. She is very industrious, highly respected and loved by all who know her but they are both rather young to marry. Benton was twenty-two Tuesday l4th and she is only sixteen. Well I know you must be lonesome living by your- self, are you not? You asked me if I couldn't send you a housekeeper. I'm afraid I could not succeed in finding you one. What kind of one do you want? Young or old, pretty of ugly, 1'11 try to get you one but you had better come and select one for yourself if you can't find one out there. You did not guess anything right but my complexion. I have very light blue eyes, hair almost red and weigh 150 Ibs and will be seventeen in July. I do not know how I would like living in Texas but think I would like it very well. I want to go to school next fall and winter if I can get Papa to send me. I also want to take music lessions and learn to play if he will let me for I think music is so sweet. But I don't think a piano makes a pretty music as an organ, do you? Although they say the piano is the easiest to play on. I hope you will come to see us, for we all want to see you. Well I guess I had better close my brief and un- interesting letter for fear of tireing you. This leaves all very well and hope it will find you the same. Please excuse bad writing. Will promise to do better next time. Write soon and let us hear from you. All join me in love to you. Your affectionate Niece, Carrie. P.S. I forgot to tell you that Cousin ELLa has been married four or five years. I have forgotten the name of her husband but think it is Wilson. Al of Uncle Benton's children are married except two, Cousin Bonnie, the crippled one and Elliotte, the youngest. Bennie married last Feb. 8th, Fannie the 20th of Apr. last. She married a young man from New Orleans. He is a cousin to Bennie's wife. Mama said tell you to write us all your children's names. Write soon, Carrie ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
