Duplin County, NC - William Grimes Papers ¤¤¤¤¤¤ Coleman, Texas. Oct. 8th 1905 Dear Papa: Will write you a letter this eve. It Is awful warm this evening. Don*t seem like It Is getting late In the fall. One of our neighbors died right cross the street Friday night. She was an old lady 79 yrs old. Died on her birthday. I had to help dress and sit up all nigbt, Miss Lonnie and one of her neighbors came up yesterday and Miss Lonnie stayed all night with ua. I was too sleepy to sit up late with her. Sam Jones preached here last night. The seats were a $1.00 but he preached free this morning at the court house. We went but couldn't get a seat or standing room. Didn't even get to see his face. The children saw him. They say he is old and gray. Willie Alice said tell you she wished she could see you and kiss you and Gladys said so too. Billiard said he was going to gather pecans next Saturday and wish you had some of them. Dixie said tell you she liked apples. All that sounds foolish but they want to send you some word. How are you and Raymond getting gathering your crops? They are making very good cotton here. Have been about 3500 bales of cotton ginned here in town besides the gins out in the country. Is Cousin Margaret going to stay with Cousin Albert? Poor old Aunt Mary, she lived a long time. The baby has been sick a week. I think she is having light chills. I am well of rheumatism. My knees are stiff yet. Can't squat down on them at all. Write soon. Lovingly, Bertie. Note:- The above letter was written by Bertie Grimes Henderson, to her father William J. Grimes, Arleston, Panola Co.. Texas. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
