While a resident of Dobbs County, NC he enlisted early in the Revolution, served at various times, amounting in all to twenty seven months, under Captains Jacob Johnson, Augustin Spain, Simon Edwards, Cullers, and Colonels Richard Caswell and Benjamin Axon in the North Carolina Troops and was in the battles of Moore’s Creek, Brier Creek, Gates Defeat where he was wounded in the right forearm and battle of Catawba, exact dates of enlistments and discharges not shown. After the war he lived in Chatham County, NC for some time. He was allowed pension on his application executed December 13, 1832 at which time he was a resident of Washington County, GA. He died December 19, 1845. Soldier married in 1786, day and month not stated, in Chatham County, NC, Martha Avent. She died March 2, 1851 in Washington County, GA age about eighty one. The following children were living in 1855: Aaron Cox, age sixty three; Gatsey, a daughter, age sixty years; John, age fifty seven; Mary, age fifty four; Rebecca, age fifty; Malinda, age forty seven; and Robert Cox, age forty four.
