Parker BA-J/AWF Washington, DC Thomas Canady W. 3561 Dear Sir: In compliance with your request of recent date, you are furnished herein the Revolutionary War record of Thomas Canady, as found in papers on file in claim for pension, W. 3561, based upon his service in that war. Thomas Canady (the name is shown as Kenneday, Keneday, and Kennedy) was born August 20, 1763 in "Carteret," state not named. The names of his parents are not given. While residing in Duplin County, North Carolina, Thomas Canady enlisted May 25, 1781, served as private twelve months in Captains Joseph T. Rhodes', Benjamin Coleman's, Doherty's companies, Colonel Murfree's North Carolina regiment, was in the battle of Eutaw Springs. He was allowed pension on his application executed November 26, 1832, then living in Duplin County, North Carolina. He died in Duplin County, February 5, 1851. Thomas Canady married Sarah --, the date and place of her birth, names of parents, date of marriage, and date of he death are not shown. He married October 20, 1796, or December 1, 1796, in Duplin County, North Carolina, Nancy Bishop; they were married at the residence of her father, Robert Bishop. The date and place of birth of Nancy Bishop, and name of her mother are not shown. The widow, Nancy Canady, was allowed pension on her application executed March 15, 1853, at which time she was seventy-eight years of age, and living in Duplin County, North Carolina. She was allowed one hundred sixty acres of bounty land on her application executed November 23, 1855, still living in Duplin County. The following family data are shown, also two of whom were grandchildren of Thomas Canady and wife Nancy - Rhoda Kennaday born January 29, 1809 Wright Kenneday born May 9, 1811 Susanah Davise born December 21, 1811 Bryan R. Davise born April 8, 1814 William B. Kennedy born May 8, 1856 [1836?] Sarah Adline Kennedy born July 12, 1842 Robert Bishop, brother of the widow Nancy Canady, was born in November, 1779, and in 1854 was living in Duplin County, North Carolina. Willis Bishop, nephew of the widow, was forty-nine years old in 1854, then living in Duplin County, North Carolina. One Bryan Bishop was living in 1855 in Duplin County, North Carolina, no relationship to the family was stated. The papers on file in this claim contain no further discernible data relative to family.
