Mason http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00023.html#0005630 February 6, 2014, 2:22 pm 20 Jan 1854 “Wilmington Journal” We are pained to find that the reports of death by Small Pox in Duplin are fully borne out by the facts, and that, among the deceased, are some as valuable and respectable citizens as the County contained. Among the deaths by Small Pox are Mr. James Jerman, late County Court Clerk; Mr. Alexander Grady, Jr.; Alexander Grady, Sr. and wife; and two of their children reported to be dead; Goodman Grady and wife; Outlaw Grady; James M. Grady and child; Mr. Jerman’s child; Mr. Hugh Maxwell’s child. Fifteen members of Mr. Jerman’s white and colored family, including Mrs. Jerman and two of the children, are said to be down with the same disease.
