JOHN GEORGE BLIZZARD John George Blizzard of Wilmington, NC, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at his residence. He was born on September 2, 1924, in Duplin County, NC, the son of the late James and Addie Dunn Blizzard. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Blizzard and two sisters, Macy Chestnut and Inez Smith. Mr. Blizzard was a graduate of West Point, having served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army in Germany. In his earlier years, he was a farmer and later owned several car lots in the Wilmington area. After his retirement, he went back to his love of the land and became an avid gardener. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #343, and was also a member of The Elks, Lodge #532. He was loved by many people and will be greatly missed by everyone, including his beloved dog, Heather. Surviving are one son, Randy Blizzard and wife, Melody, of Wilmington, NC; two daughters, Dolores Garner and husband, Allen, and Pat Lee, all of Wilmington; three brothers, Osborne Blizzard and wife, Hazel, of Penderlea, NC, Gardner Blizzard and wife, Margaret, of Penderlea, NC, Earl Daniel Blizzard and wife, Frances, of Beulaville, NC; two sisters-in-law, Rose Blizzard of Penderlea, NC, and Pauline Blizzard of Norfolk, VA; six grandchildren, David Garner, Sheila Watts, Andrea Lee, Jennifer Lee and Kimberly Lee, all of Wilmington, and Melissa Blizzard of Richmond, VA; six great-grand|children, Kathy, Emily, Chris, Johnathan, Joey and Arial; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 1999, at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church by Rev. Bryan Slater. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Baker-Blizzard Family Cemetery in Beulaville, NC. Pallbearers will be Dwight Lee, David Garner, Tim Watts, Tony Norris, Jimmy Blizzard and Wally Blizzard. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel.
