State of North Carolina, Duplin County
Know all Men by these presents that We, Dickson SLOAN, Daniel C. MOORE, Davis 
MIDDLETOWN, Samuel STANFORD & Joseph GILLESPIE, Guardian for Margaret MAXWELL (a 
Minor heir) all of the State aforesaid Dickson SLOAN of the County of Sampson & 
Daniel C. MOORE, David MIDDLETON, Samuel STANFORD, & Joseph GILLESPIE, Guardian, 
of the County of Duplin for & in consideration of the sum of Four Hundred & 
fifty dollars to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged 
hath bargained, sold & delivered to Eleanor MAXWELL of the State aforesaid & 
County of Duplin, a certain Negro Woman & child known by the name of LAURA & 
MARY, which Negroes & their increase we warrant & defend that part of our claim 
due to us by the death of Henry MAXWELL to her the said Eleanor MAXWELL her 
heirs or assigns forever. 
March the 15th A. D. 1828.
