Dickson SLOAN to Daniel C. MOORE, both of Duplin Co., NC-B. Sale
1 April 1841

State of North Carolina
Duplin County

Know all men by these presents that I Dickson SLOAN of the County of Duplin & 
State aforesaid for & in consideration of the sum of one dollar to me paid by 
Dan’l C. MOORE of the same State & County, the recipe & payment whereof is 
hereby acknowledged & for that whereas the said Danl. C. MOORE hath become bound 
as security for said D. SLOAN to Hall & Armstrong in the sum of Three hundred & 
twenty seven 06/100? dollars in a promissory note of an even date with these 
presents have bargained sold & delivered & by these presents do bargain sell & 
deliver unto the said Daniel C. MOORE the following slaves, viz: JOE, JACK, 
PRIAMUS, BILL, SAM, DANIEL, AMOS, HANNAH, MARY, WINIFRED, MARGARET to have & to 
hold said Slaves unto the said Dan’l. C. MOORE his exr & Admr’s. to their only 
proper use & behoof forever, to be void nevertheless on condition that the said 
Dickson SLOAN will & truly pay certain debts secured by a prior mortgage from 
said Dickson SLOAN to the said D. C. MOORE bearing date on or about the 20th 
July 1841 & registered in the Register’s Office of Sampson County-reference to 
which will more fully appear for the slaves aforesaid & also said note of 
$327.00 above recorded otherwise to remain in full force & virtue this the 1st 
day of April 1842.
