A, p. 503-506 Will of John WILLIAMS Written: 17 June 1790 Probated: July 1790 In the Name of God, Amen. The Seventeenth Day of June in the year of Our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven hundred and Ninety. I, John WILLIAMS of the County of Duplin & State of N. Carolina & Being at present in a Good State of Health and Sound Mind & Memory thanks Be to God for the Same therefore Calling unto mind the Mortality of my Body & Knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to Die, Therefore, I do make & Ordain this my Last Will & Testament that is to say principally & first I give and recommend my Soul in the hands of God that gave it & I - my Body I do Recommend? it to the earth to be buried in a Christian & Decent Manner at the Discretion of my Executor. Nothing Deducting? but at the General Resurrection that I shall Reward? the S- again by the mighty power of God & as touching such worldly Estate when with it haste pleased God to Bless me with in this life. I give dispose of the Same in the following Manner same? that is to say- Improvise: I leave unto my well beloved wife Priscilla WILLIAMS , during her Natural life the Manner plantation whereon I know live, also the use & Benefit of five Negro Slaves as follows to Wit: MALL, SANTEE, CHARLES, JACK, & JENNA to work out Labor on the plantation if they prove orderly & Submitt- & if not one or more of them to be hired out for their time of one year & the profits to endow my wife Raise and School my children as this my Will shall here after Direct & its my Will & Desire likewise that my Wife have its use and Benefit of my Negro Woman called RATCH until my son John is twenty one years old & likewise to have the use and benefit of three horses or more,, ten Cows & Calf, five Steers, five Sows & Pigs & all the & Sheep & geese & five feather beds & furniture all the plantation tools that is on the plantation & Twenty five pounds in Money this is the enable her to Raise my children & to Give my youngest Son four years Schooling & my three youngest Daughters Two years schooling Each & at the Death of my wife then the aforesaid Negores: MALL, CHARLES, JACK & JENNA with the revenue & all the Remainder part of the said Stock & utensils to Be Sold & the money arisen therefore to Be Equally Divided Between my two youngest children Equal them & theirs alike not Excluding them from their other legacies. Item: I give & Bequeath unto my Daughter Easther QUINN, one Negro Girl Called BECK and her further increase to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Zilpha WILLIAMS one Negro Slave Called ARTHUR and Eighty pounds in Money also five cows & calves & one Feather Bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Jurasa WILLIAMS two Negro Slaves called LITTLE DINAH & TONEY with the future increase of the female Slaves & fifteen pounds in Money to her and her heirs Lawfully begotten forever, Item: I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Prudence WILLIAMS, two Negroe Slaves HANAH & MAJOR with the future increase of the female Slave to her and her heirs lawfully Begotten forever. Item: I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Seaney WILLIAMS two Negro Slaves Called FRANK and SUE with the future increase of the female Slave to her and her heirs lawfully begotten forever. Item: I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Patience WILLIAMS two negro Slaves called CHARLES & LENNOR with the future increase of the female Slave to her & her lawful Begotten forever. Item: I give & Bequeath unto my Son Jacob WILLIAMS the land & plantation where Thomas QUINN now lives and all the land Belonging to the same with all the land Belonging to the same with all and every part and said Land that at this time possess in Onslow County together with all the plantation tools also the Blacksmith tools and one Negro Woman called ROSE and her future increase & one negro man Called ABRAHAM and one Negro Boy Called TOM, Six Cows & Calfs and one young mare, saddle, bridle and my will & desire is that my son Jacob should have the use of Six Negroes, Six months, GEEN, LESON, BOB, TOM, CHARES & JACK for to Build a Mill & furnish of Complete and also I give my son Jacob WILLIAMS my negro boy DOCK for his trouble and Expense all of which is to him and his heirs Lawfully begotten forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Lewis WILLIAMS all and every part & parcel of land that I possess at this time in Wake County Also the land and plantation that I purchased from Lot GREGORY together with their Negro Slaves Called JIM, AMY & GENNA with the increase of the female Slave, from Cows & Claves one young horse one mare Bridle and Saddle and a Suit of apparel to the price of ten pounds to them and his heirs Lawfully begotten forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son, Jesse WILLIAMS the Manor Plantation that i now live on after his mother's Death with all the lands that I at this time possess in Duplin County only what part I have all ready given and the part and parcel that I Bought of Lutson STROUD? and Richard PRESCOTT as I shall hereafter Bequeath with all the plantation tools thereon at the decease of his mother also two negroe Slaves Called BOB & NATHAN one young horse or mare Bridle and Sadle and a Suit of Apparel the amount of ten pounds price to him and his lawfully begotten forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Fountain WILLIAMS all and Every part and parcel of Land that I at this time possess in Jones County together with all the plantation tools there unto Belonging also two Negro slaves Called CESAR & BIG DINAH with the increase of the female Slaves and one young Horse or Mare Saddle & Bridle and a Suit of Apparel to the amount of ten pounds price to him and his heirs Lawfully Begotten forever. Item: I give and Bequeath unto my son John WILLIAMS all and every part & parcel of Land that I Bought of Lutson STROUD and Richard PRESCOT also two Negro Slaves called RUTH and GEORGE with the future increase of the female Slave and one young horse or mare saddle & Bridle to him and his heirs Lawfully Begotten forever. Item: I give and Bequeath unto my Son in Law, William HEATH one Negro Slave Called CATO to him and his heirs forever. Item: Then immediately after my decease & R---?, I Devise that all my prior Debts Funeral Expenses may be Satisfied and - off- the Remaining part of my personal estate, to Be Sold of & the Money to be Equally Divided between my Five Sons, Equally share & share alike including the Same with their other Leageses here Before Mentioned it Being to them & their Lawfully Begotten forever Also & further Bequeath and Devise that if any of my Daughters should Die without issue that then Legacies my Be equally Divided Between the other Daughters Equally & share & share alike to them and their heirs Lawfully Begotten forever, and that the Sons have no part nor parcel with them. Also it is my Desire that any of my Sons Die without issue that another Legacies Be Equally Divided Between the other Son's & share and share alike to them & their heirs Lawfully Begotten forever and that the daughters have no part nor share thereof. Item: I Constitute & Do nominate & appoint my beloved Son Jacob WILLIAMS with my Brother In Law Archelus BARNES to be my Executor to this my Last Will & Testament Revoking al other Will or Wills Testament or Testaments, Wills & Legacies Bequeathes, Executors by me in any Way Before this time named Willed, & Bequeathed, Ratifying & Confirming this and no other to Be my last Will & Testament in Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & fixed my Seal the Day and Year above written.
