A1, p. 486-487 Will of Stephen WILLIAMS of Duplin County, NC Written: 23 May 1840 Probate: April 1841 North Carolina Duplin County In the Name of God, Amen. I, Stephen WILLIAMS being of Sound Mind and Memory Blessed be God for the same do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament, after my death all of my worldly estate much be disposed of after the following manner. I give to my beloved wife during her natural life my plantation whereon I live all of my Cattle, horses, hogs & Sheep but after he death to be divided as follows: All the land that I have on the North East Side of Rockfish Creek as for as the most S run of Said Creek, must be divided between my three daughters Elizabeth, Phebe and Zilpha, and all of my lands lying on the South Side of Rockfish Creek as far as the South side of said Creek, I give to my grandson James T. JOHNSON and all of my lands lying on Taylors Creek, I give to my grandson George Washington WILLIAMS, after the death of my wife, my stock to be divided as follows, I give to my grandson James T. JOHNSTON and three of my daughters to wit: Elizabeth, Phebe & Zilpha one half of my Stock of Cattle, and Sheep and the remaining half of Cattle and Sheep I give to my two daughters Bridget and Mary, I give to my three daughters to wit: Elizabeth, Phebe and Zilpha all of my Stock of horses and hogs. As for daughter Ann it is my desire that she remain with my grandson James T. JOHNSON or her three sisters to wit: Elizabeth, Phebe and Zilpha (at her pleasure) and that they furnish her every comfortable necessary of life (but is no wise subject to the benefit of her husband Isaac WILSON) but should she to said Ann there rise? prefer to emigrate from her three Sisters or my Grandson above mentioned there in that event they may guardian and three daughters above mentioned shall not feel themselves ———- her ——? Also in addition to what I have heretofore given my daughter Ann I now give her the sum of one dollar. As to my household and kitchen furniture & farming utensils & I leave with my wife and after he death my daughter Mary must have one feather bed and my grandson James T. JOHNSON must have one feather bed and its necessary furniture the remainder part of my household and kitchen furniture & family utensils of all description, I give to Elizabeth, Phebe and Zilpha As for all Cash notes or accounts that may be on hand after the death of my Wife must be divided between Elizabeth, Phebe and Zilpha but subject to the benefit of my wife during her natural life. I do hereby nominate appoint & ordain my Son in Law Stephen WILLIAMS and grandson James T. JOHNSON my Executor to this my Last Will and Testament this 23rd day of May in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty.
