Terry & wife To Wm Lipscomb State of North Carolina ) Durham County ) This Deed made this 24th day of May 1883 by William S Terry and Martha Terry his wife of Durham County and State of North Carolina to William Lipscomb of Durham County and State of North Carolina Witnesseth that Said William S Terry and Martha Terry his wife in consideration of the sum one hundred & fifty Dollars to them paid by William Lipscomb the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain sell and convey to said William Lipscomb and his heirs a tract or parcel of land in Durham County State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of Joseph Dunnegan William [Gross] A Mangum and others bounded as follows viz. Beginning at a stake [Gross] corner running thence West 19 1/2 chains to Dunnegans line thence North 15 1/2 chains 10 links to a hickory thence east 30 1/2 chains to the Milton road thence Southward with the Milton road to [Gross] corner thence West 15 1/2 chains 5 links to a stake thence South four chains 13 links to the beginning containing forty acres [2] Rods 14 poles To have and to hold the aforesaid tract or parcel of land and all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging to the said William Lipscomb his heirs and assigns to his & their only use and behoof And the said William S Terry & wife Martha Terry covenant that they are seized of said premises in fee and have right to convey the same in fee simple that the same are free from all incumbrances and that the will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever. Terry ) Martha E. Terry (Seal) State of North Carolina ) Durham County ) I W.J. Christian Clerk of the Superior Court do hereby certify that W Terry and Martha E. Terry his wife appeared before me this day and acknowledged the due execution of the annexed deed of conveyance and the said Martha E Terry being by me privately examined separate and apart from her said husband touching her voluntary execution of the same doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily without fear or compulsion of her said husband or any other person and that she doth still voluntarily assent thereto.
