C. Henricksen Business Manager and Comptroller Duke University Durham, North Carolina Dear Mr. Henricksen: I am writing to you with regard to the purchase of a University lot for home building. Mr. Oscar Petty has informed me that I am "on the list", as I have been for many years, but that the exact order of preference would be determined by individual consideration of each case. May I therefore plead my cause? As you know, I have been a member of the Duke University community since the fall of 1936, in fact, I feel like a charter member. Since I was unmarried and knew that University lots were in great demand, it seemed fair to me that families should be given preference. I therefore have never pressed too hard for a building site. However, things really changed (at long last) on October 23, 1958. This new, interesting, and most enjoyable development (marriage) undeniably alters one's perspective. Houses, building lots and so on suddenly become much more important objects than formerly. Could I therefore be placed high on the "List"? I offer extremes in qualifications. Who else has the combination of so long a University service and so short a marital status! With best regards, I am Sincerely yours, Jerome S. Harris, M. D. Department of Pediatrics JSH/bcw
