M.J.P. ANGIER DEAD Widow of the Late M.A. Angier and Mother of Mrs. B.N. Duke Passes Away at Age of 85 - One of Durham's Oldest Residents - Funeral To-Day. Special to The Observer Durham, March 31 - Mrs. Mary Jane Pearson Angier, widow of the late Mayor M.A. Angier and mother of Mrs. B.N. Duke died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. H. Stokes in this city, this morning shortly ater 4 o'clock, death being due to old age and general debility. Mrs. Angier was 85 years of age and was one of Durham's oldest residents. The funeral will be held from Trinity Methodist church tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock and interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Mrs. Angier had been in failin health for several months. [Charlotte Daily Observer, Monday Morning, April 2, 1906] FUNERAL OF MRS. ANGIER Remains of Aged Durham Lady Laid to Rest Beside Those of Her Late Husband - was Mother of Mrs. B. N. Duke. Special to The Observer Durham, April 1, - The funeral of Mrs. Mary Jane Pearson Angier, widow of the late ex-Mayor M.A. Angier was conducted from Trinity Methodist church this afternoon at 3 o'clock and the remains were laid at rest beside those of her aged husband, who died a few years ago in the Duke mausoleum at Maplewood Cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs A.B. Greem F. L. Pew, D. J. Parrish, S. R. Perry, G.C. Futhing, W.J. Carrington, W. S. Newton and L.J. Jones. Honor beares Messrs J.E. Stagg, J.H. Southgate, T.M. Gorman, W.A. Erwin, W.C. Bradsher, J.B. Mason, J.F. Wiley, W.R. McCabe, J. R. Blacknail, J.S. Manning, D.C. Mangum and Prof. A. H. Merritt. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. R.C. Beaman pastor of the church and he was assisted by Dr. E.W. Yates and Rev. T.A. Smoot. Mrs. Angier, who was the mother of Mrs. B.N. Duke, was one of Durham's oldest citizens having been a resident of this city and section since long before the days when Durham as a city was dreamed of by any one. She was the daughter of William and Nancy Pearson, was born five mile south of Durham and spent her entire life in this section. She was one of three children, two daughter and a son, and her death makes her the last of the last of her family from this life. She was born on October 8, 1820, and was therefore 75 years, three months and twentythree days of age. On February 10, 1853 she became the bride of the late M.A. Angier and of this union there are now living four children, these being as follows Mr. W.J. Angier, of Raleigh, Mr. J.C. Angier, general manager of the Angier Railroad, who lives in this city, Mrs. A.H. Stokes and Mrs. B.N. Duke both of Durham.
