Atkins, and resident of the Chapel Hill Road, will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Congregational Christian Church. The Rev. Stanley C. Harrell, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Active pallbearers will be T.W. Pickett, Walter Ray, C. J. Ellington, O. H. Pickett, J.M. Franklin, and Jeff Atwater. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. W. H. Boone, W. P. Perry, J.L. Cash, C.C. Mulholland, A. T. Crutchfield, Carey Crutchfield, R. J. Broadwell, E. F. Dollar, R. J. Kernodle, D.L. Boone, J. T. Underwood, C. M. Crutchfield, and W. D. Sewell. Serving as floral bearers will be Mesdames C. J. Ellington, Josiah Atkins, Walter Ray, R. W. Parker, T. W. Pickett, O.H. Pickett, Rigia Collier, J. T. Underwood, H. W. Pickett, E. F. Dollar, W. P. Perry, A. T. Crutchfield, T. M. Oakley, Curtis Crutchfield, R. J. Broadwell, and L.T. Matthews. Mrs. Atkins suffered a heart attach upon leaving church Sunday morning and was removed to her home, where she died at 1 o’clock. She had been in declining health for the past two years, but recently had been enjoying her usual good health. The deceased was born and reared in Orange County, now Durham County, the daughter of Lewis Harward and Mary Jane Kirkland Harward, and had lived all her life in the county. On Feb. 2, 1941 she celebrated her golden wedding anniversary. For a long number of years she had been a faithful member of the Congregational Christian Church. On Feb 2, 1891 she married to Robert J. Atkins of Durham County. From this union are surviving one son, Gus G. Atkins of Middleburg; one sister, Mrs. J. P. Massey of Durham.
