CORA G. BILLINGS Mrs. Cora Gunter Billings, 89, resident of 407 Milton Ave. and widow of John R. Billings, who for many years was superintendent of Maplewood Cemetery, died at her home Sunday morning at 12:15 o'clock following several years of declining health. She had been critically ill for the past week. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Hall-Wynne Chapel. The body will remain at the funeral home until removed to Chapel for the rites. Dr. Kelsey Regan, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. William T. Scott, Jr. pastor of the Main Street Congregational Christian Church, will officiate at the rites. Interment will be in the old section of the Maplewood Cemetery. Order of the Eastern Star rites will be held at the graveside by members of the Southgate chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Active pallbearers will be the following grandsons: John R. Billings, Charles L. Billings, Richard L. Billings, Robert H. Billings, James B. Urquart and William H. Currie Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be A. H. Borland, Dr. R. A. Harton, Y. C. Bailey, Johnson Matthews, J. Albert Jones, A. J. Gresham, Judge A. R. Wilson, Oscar G. Baker, Charlie Ethridge Jr., James R. Patton Jr., Ralph E. Rogers Sr., J. A. Walker, Clinton Burns, J.D. Stafford, J.W. Maddox, Sam Dunn, William Teer, Millard C. Hall, William Morris, Ernest Temple, C. C. Pearce, E.C. Brooks, Warren Parrish and W. F. Caswell all of Durham, Elwood R. Willis of Marshallburg; and Col. H. E. Kendal, Ralph Moody, David G. Bal l, R. B. Overman, W. D. Hollerman, R. Fuller Martin, W. F. Renfro and John C. Memory. Born in the section of Orange County that later became Durham County, she was the daughter of Squire Demetrius Craven Gunter and Janie Trice Gunter. She had lived all of her life in this community, and was member of t he First Presbyterian Church. For a number of years she was active in the work of the Order of the Eastern Star in Durham and was an honorary life member of the Southgate Chapter. She was first married to W.W. Austin who died in 1896. Surviving from this union are four daughters, Mrs. O. J. Theis Sr. of Charlotte; Mrs. O. J. Theis Jr., of Davidson College, Mrs. P. D. Speed of Toronto Canada, and Mrs. Lillie Urquahart of Durham: and one son, W. G. Austin of Durham. She next married to John Richard Billings who died in 1922. Surviving this union are two sons, R. B. Billings of Durham, and J. H. Billings of Washington, D.C.; two step-daughters, Mrs. W. H. Currie of High Point and Mrs. J.C. Walker of Raleigh; and one step-son, John R. Billings of Buffalo, N.Y. Other survivors include 32 grandchildren: 45 great grandchildren: a number of great-great grandchildren: two sisters Mrs. J. Edd Pickett and Mrs. J .W. Stone both of Durham: and one brother, Edward T. Gunter of Durham.
