"Judge" D.C. Gunter, aged 69 and many years the well known trial justice of the county, dropped dead this morning at 9:30 in his office on Main street. He has been slowly declining several months, but was not kept entirely from work. He insisted upon returning to his office and was again advised not to do so. His physician several days ago told him that continuance of this exertion would kill him. This morning he walked up the steps, crossed the door and fell dead on the floor. He was a Confederate soldier, many years a farmer and a magistrate of the county and city and took a prominent part in local politics. Mr. Gunter, was early married and leaves a family of wife and six children, five girls and one boy. He had many other relatives in the county and his passing removes one of the city's landmarks.
