W.D. Harward, D.D., 68, for 40 years a widely known minister of the Christian church, who died at his home yesterday. Final rites will be conducted at the Dendron Christian church by the Rev. I.W. Johnson, D.D., the Rev. G.F. Wright and the Rev. B.H. Watkins. Burial will be at Antioch Christian church cemetery. Dr. Harward had retired from active ministerial duties because of ill health. He had served charges in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Windsor during his long ministry. It was while serving the Windsor church that he was stricken by paralysis, contributing cause of his health. A native of Durham, N.C., Dr. Harward was graduated from Elon College and the University of North Carolina. Upon his entry into the ministry of the Christian church, he joined the Eastern Virginia Conference, in which he served his entire ministry. Dr. Harward is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mollie Barrett Harward; a son, W. Eugene Harward of Washington; a sister-in-law, Mrs. D.J. Bowden, of Norfolk, and two grandchildren. DR. WILLIAM DANIEL HARWARD RICHMOND TIMES DISPATCH, 10-05-1939, P.7 Rites Held Yesterday for Retired Clergyman DENDRON - Funeral services for Dr. William Daniel Harward, 69, retired clergyman, who died Monday at his residence here, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Dendron Christian Church with burial in the family plot at Antioch Christian Church near Windsor. Dr. Harward was a native of Durham, N.C., was a son of the late George and Margaret Mooring Harward. He was educated at Elon College and the University of North Carolina. He served in North Carolina and Virginia Conferences of the Christian Church for over 40 years, having held nine different pastorates including Youngsville, N.C., Petersburg, Wakefield, Norfolk, Newport News, Portsmouth, Windsor and Dendron in Virginia and Madrid, Iowa. He is a past president of the Eastern Virginia Christian Conference. Dr. Harward was stricken with paralysis in the pulpit at Antioch, the first Sunday in January, 1927, and has been in feeble health since that time. He had spent 14 years in Dendron, 12 years as pastor of the local Christian church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mollie Barrett Harward; one son, W. Eugene Harward of Washington, D.C; two grandchildren, Virginia and Billy Harward os Washington; three nieces and nephews in Durham, N.C. and one nephew in Winston- Salem, N.C. DR. REV.
