Mrs. Sewell Dies At Home In City
Beloved Woman Had Resided in Durham For Many Years; Funeral Set For Today
Mrs. Julia Ann Sewell died Saturday morning at 8 o'clock after 9 weeks of 
illness
Julian Ann Walker was born in Manchester, England, November 13, 1845
She was 2 when her parents came to America and settled in Philadelphia, 
Pennsylvania
She married Thomas Sewell in 1865 at the age of 2
Thomas died 25 years ago
They had 8 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters
Sons: George of Erwin; Thomas of Burlington; Ben F. and Charles J. of Durham
Daughters: Mrs. Annie Thompson, Mrs. Cora Dunn, Miss Ida and Mrs. D.E. Ryder 
of Durham
21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren
She grew up in the Episcopal church, but had been a member of the Presbyterian 
church for the last 30 years
She had moved her membership from the First church to Fuller Memorial church, 
4 1/2 years ago
She came from Philadelphia 59 years ago and had lived in Durham for 34 years
While visiting in Norfolk, Va on August 4th, she fell and gradually grew 
weaker until the end
The funeral will be conducted from the home Sunday afternoon at 3 by her 
pastor, Rev. Ralph S. Carson of Fuller Memorial Presbyterian Church
Pallbearers are church officers: E.H. Chappell, D.E. Ferrell, J.W. Howe, H.E. 
Howe, C.D. Hicks and W.A. O'Neal
Floral bearers: Misses Juanita Sewell, Gladys Sewell, Ruby Sewell, Mrs. Flora 
Morris, Mrs. Thelma Dunn, Mrs. Ethel Blackwood, Mrs. Mary Chappell and Mrs. 
Lucille Sneed
