James Norman Tilley, 84
Died in Dutchville Township Thursday night at the home of daughter, Mrs. 
Herbert Lyon at 6:30 pm
In declining health a number of years, death attributed to complication of 
diseases due to advanced age
Born and reared in Bahama
Son of Marcus and Mary Ball Tilley
Lived near Stem, Granville County most of his life
Occupation: Farmer
Member of Board of County Commissioners, Granville County for 3 terms and 
was a magistrate a number of years
Member of the School Board in the Knapp of Reeds community and instrumental 
in establishing a high school in his community
Religious faith: Methodist and member of Mt. Bethel Methodist Church, Bahama 
at the time of his death
188[3 or 5] married Miss Laura Jane Roberts of Granville County, who died in 1934 
Survivors: 2 daughters, Mrs. Herbert Lyon, Granville County and Mrs. M. E. Ball 
of Varina, 1 son, Bryan Tilley, Bahama, 1 foster son, Dr. R. C. Bullock, Raleigh
14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren
