Special to The Observer. Durham, June 17. - Miss Nellie Barbee and Oliver Johnson, both of Durham, were married last night in Graham at the residence of Mrs. T. O. Coble, a sister of the groom, the wedding began an orthodox runaway which began the night before in Durham. The children, the bridegroom of 19 and the bride of 18, made a prodigious effort to marry Thursday evening for the glory of working in cahoot, but when they approached the register of deeds, he declined to give license. He insisted that he knew the bride and he broke it up. They missed marrying and yesterday morning drove to Hillsboro and purchased license. That was all they needed. Last night before Rev. John Thomas, Baptist minister, the two stood up, Eugene McCracken being best man and Miss Beulah Coble, niece of the bridegroom, being maid of honor. The couple will returned here in a day or two. Mr. Johnson expects in the early year to go to the Philippine Islands to serve the nation in a soldierly capacity. He is a member of the local military and of the fire company. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Barbee. She has a sweet voice and talent in music. Additional Comments: Nellie Barbee's parents were Hiram Sidney and Lydia [Hopson] Barbee.
