He married MATILDA VIRGINIA BARKER2 July 1866 in St. Francis County, Arkansas. She was born 1849 in Graves County, Kentucky, and died October 10, 1910 in Arkansas. Notes for WILLIAM WADE WEBB: Wade Webb ran away from home in Edgecombe County at an early age with the Byrum, Webb, and Barnes families going to Tennessee. Wade then went to St. Francis County, Arkansas in 1853. One of Wade's brothers Elbert went to Arkansas and tried to get Wade to return to North Carolina but Wade would not return. Wade drowned near Newcastle community just north of Forrest City in Arkansas crossing the St. Francis River on horseback in 1894-1895. The horse threw him and while he was under the water the horse kicked him in the head, therefore killing him. The following is from the Goodspeed's Biographies 1889-1890 St. Francis County, Arkansas. Wade Webb, a farmer by occupation, owes his nativity to the State of North Carolina, his birth occurring in Edgecombe County in 1841. (In 1840 North Carolina Court Minutes it states that Orman Webb was Wade's father. Not John). John and Esther Webb, his parents, were natives of the same State. The ancestors came from England before the Revolutionary War, settling near James River in Virginia. Wade Webb passed his youthful days in the schools of North Carolina, and upon coming to St. Francis County, Arkansas in 1853, began farming. He now owns 200 acres, with 120 under a successful state of cultivation. He was married in July, 1866, to Matilda Virginia daughter of Absalom and Matilda Barker, and to their union seven children were given, five living: John Lee, Remington Pender, Willie W., James R. and Elbert. Mr. Webb enlisted during the war in the Confederate army, in Company B of the Fifth Arkansas Regiment, serving until the final surrender. He participated in the Battles of Murfreesboro, Jonesboro, Stone River, Perryville, Missionary Ridge and Cumberland Gap. At the Battle of Murfreesboro he received a severe wound. Mr. Webb is an enterprising, energetic farmer and citizen, and contributes liberally to those movements which betoken the good or growth of the County. Although the above article lists Wade's father as John Webb, in the North Carolina Court Minutes the following appears: 1840 State vs Orman Webb Bastardy; The defendant having appeared according to the condition of his recognizance and it appears to the satisfaction of the Court that the child is born. It is ordered by the Court that he pay into office $15 down for the use of the mother, Easther Webb and $10.00 a year for six succeeding years, the first payment to be due August term 1841 and that he enter into bond with sufficient security conditioned for her compliance with this order and the maintenance of said child whereupon he entered into bond with John Webb and Watson Harrell in compliance with the upon order. Wade left N.C. at an early age and settled in St. Francis Co. Ar. He joined the Confederacy at Wittsburg, Ar. on June 12, 1861. He was in Company B of the Fifth Arkansas Infantry under Colonel M. Walker, and was a Private. Wade was taken prisoner in Forsythe GA. on Sept. 12 1864 and took the oath on May 15, 1865 at Newberg N.C. Children of WILLIAM WEBB and MATILDA BARKER are: i.
