Edgecombe County, NC - Deeds - Godwin, WJ (Jane) to Boseman, James-1876 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Glenn Frazier Edgecombe County Courthouse, Tarboro, NC Deed Book 39, page 591 This indenture made this 10th day of August in the year eighteen hundred and seventy six between W. J. Godwin and wife Jane Godwin of the first part and County of Edgecombe and state of North Carolina and James H. Boseman of the County of Edgecombe and State of North Carolina of the second part witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged has given granted bargained sold and conveyed and does hereby give grant bargain sell and convey to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns a piece of land lying in the County of Edgecombe, State of North Carolina bounds as follows commencing at a stake twenty four feet from W. J. Godwin's house thence along the road a northern coast fifty feet thence parallel one hundred yards to Joseph Lloyd's line thence along Lloyd's line fifty feet thence back to the road to the beginning point to have and to hold the same with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to James H. Boseman the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever and the said party of the first part for the consideration aforesaid does hereby covenant and agree to warrant and defend the aforesaid to the said party of the second part his executors administrators and assigns against the claims and entry of all persons whatsoever and does further covenant that the said James H. Boseman is seized(?) of the aforesaid land in fee simple and has come to make and convey such and estate by this indenture and has done the same by these presents. In witness whereof the said party of the first part has hereunto set their hands and seals on the day and year above written. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of W. T. Staton, Judge of probate for said County personally appeared, W. T. Godwin and his wife Jane Godwin persons described in and who signed the annexed conveyances and severally acknowledge the due execution thereof for the purpose of herein expressed and therefore the said Jane Godwin being by me formally examined apart from her said husband taking her voluntary consent thereto acknowledged that she executed the same freely and without fear or compulsion of her said husband and do now voluntarily thereto and hereby relinquishes right of claim in said land.
