Johnston, county aforesaid for divers good causes him moving but especially for natural love and affection his said son, a tract on the south side of Town Creek beginning in the said creek at a cypress in the mouth of the Gum Branch then up the various courses of said branch to a gum marked for a corner of the land said Amos Johnston bot of Hezekiah Cartwright then south along said Johnston's line to a black jack a corner in said Cartwright's old line then west 75 poles along said Johnston's to a sweet gum standing in the Peach Tree Branch then up the various courses of said Peach Tree Branch to a persimmon tree in Bettises old line the corner of the land said Johnston bought of said Cartwright then continuing up the various courses of said Peach Tree Branch nearly south 126 poles to the mouth of a small drain to a corner oak & maple at the mouth of said small drain then due south 118 poles to a corner pine in one of said Amos Johnston's old lines then nearly east along the old line 87 poles to a corner lightwood stump at or near Henry Holland's corner then nearly north along said Holland's line to the corner a stake in the center of three pines marked for a corner between Hezekiah Cartwright and said Holland then east 141 ½ poles along said Holland's line to a pine a corner made between said Cartwright & said Holland then south along said Holland,s line to a white oak being the corner between said Holland the land said Johnston bought of said Cartwright & the land he bot of Henry Summerall & the land he bought of Peter Cartwright then east 50 ½ poles to a pine in John Ellis' line then north along said Ellis' & said Holland's line 156 poles to a corner in said Holland's line formerly Henry Hines' corner then running along a straight line of marked trees to a stake in the line of the land said Johnston bought of said Cartwright near where the old school house stood & where Negro Hagers house now stands then along said old line east about 7 poles to a pine at or near where the former corner pine stood against the head of Dead Pine Branch being a former corner between said Holland & the said Cartwright then along a straight line of marked trees to the head of the said branch then down the various courses of said branch along said Holland's line to the Mulberry Branch then down the various courses of said Mulberry Branch along said Holland's line to the said Town Creek then up various courses of the creek to the first station, containing (230) acres, including the plantation whereon James Hall now lives called the Cartwright Place except the use of the old part of the plantation houses & c after my death as long as my beloved wife Catherine Johnston live the use of the land and houses & c which I have lent her, signed Amos Johnston, wit Peter Hines, Joel Battle, acknowledged in court.
