  Edge. Co. Db 25, page 358, date of deed Aug. 27, 1851, date recorded 
9 Sept 1851, Henry W. Armstrong of Edge. Co. to Robert Johnson of Edge. 
Whereas by virtue of a deed & trust executed by Gabriel E. Armstrong to 
Moses Baker, trustee for certain purposes therein named & which is of 
record in the Registers office of Edgecombe County the said Moses Baker 
as trustee did after due advertisement expose to public sale for the 
highest bidder on 28th day of October 1847 a certain tract or parcel of 
land lying in Edgecombe County & on the north side of Town Creek & 
bounded as follows to wit beginning at an oak on the road James H. 
Armstrong's corner then along his line south 245 poles to a gum in own 
Creek at the mouth of a ditch then down the various courses of said 
creek to William J. Armstrong's corner then along his line to the same 
road & across said road to the other road leading towards Rocky Mount 
then along the various courses of said road to the corner of the land 
claimed by Duncan Flowers heirs then along there line to James H. 
Armstrong's corner then along his line to the first named road between 
his house & the house Gabriel E. Armstrong on said land then up said 
road to the first station containing by estimation two hundred & eight 
acres more or less at which sale William J. Armstrong became the last & 
highest bidder in the sum of eight hundred & forty dollars.  Now for 
and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred & forty dollars to the 
said Moses Baker in hand paid by the said William J. Armstrong before 
the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby 
acknowledged himself fully paid and satisfied the said Moses Baker as 
trustee doth hereby bargain sell convey & confirm unto the said William 
J. Armstrong his heirs & assigns forever all the right title claim 
interest or demand of Gabriel E. Armstrong in the aforesaid tract or 
parcel of land with all the apertainanaces therein belonging or in any 
wise apertaining thereunto to have & to hold to the said William J. 
Armstrong his heirs & assigns in as full & ample a manner as he the 
said Moses Baker is empowered by being trustee to convey & assign the 
same & fourth the said Moses Baker as trustee doth hereby covenant 
promise & grant to & with the said William J. Armstrong his heirs 
executors administrators & assigns shall & may from time to time & at 
all times hereafter have hold occupy possess & enjoy the said premises 
with the apertainanaces free & clear of & from all imcumberances he 
made done or committed by him the said Moses Baker trustee or by his 93 
words) & he the said Moses Baker will warrant & defend the same to the 
said William J. Armstrong his heirs & assigns for ever so far as he is 
authorized as trustee & no further. In testimony whereof the said Moses 
Baker hath hereunto set his hand & seal.   Moses Baker (seal) Witnesses

Term 1857.  The execution of the foregoing deed of sale is duly proven 
in court by the oath of Blake Williford one of the subscribing

  Edge. Co. Db 25, page 359, date of deed 25 Mar 1847, date recorded 
Feb. ct. 1851, Joshua Williams, Benjamin Williams and Prissey Trevathan 
of Edge. Co. to William J. Armstrong of Edge. Co. for $5 each, our 
undivided interest in a certain tract of land known as the Benjamin 
Williams Sr. and after his death the Widow Faithy Williams fifty acre 
tract which land we (from) as undivided by the death of Benjamin 
Williams, Sr., our father and the widow Faithy Williams is wife, lying 
on the east side of the Strate Branch on the road & adjoins the land of 
Bartly Williams, Jacob Robbins, & others & the various courses of the 
run of said branch is the line on one side, signed Joshua Williams, 
Benja. Williams (X), Priscilia Trevathan (+), wit. E.G. Winstead, 
Howell Braswell.  NOTE: Records for recording show that Howell Braswell 
is dead and E.G. Winstead is living out of state and unavailable to 
prove deed. Deed was proved on oath of Blake Williford and Epenetus G. 
Armstrong who identified the handwriting of the two witnesses.

William Norfleet, trustee of Blake Williford to Orren Proctor, whereas 
Blake Williford, Edge. Co by deed dated 10 Sep 1847 conveyed, in trust 
to William Norfleet, said county the lands herein described for certain 
purposed therein mentioned, registered in Db 24, page 292, and whereas 
said Norfleet offered said land to the highest bidder, there part 
thereof not embraced in the exceptions herein after mentioned, on 
Wednesday, 15 Jan 1851 and Orran Proctor, Edge. Co was last and highest 
bidder in the sum of $771.50, a tract on the southwest side of Tyan 
Cokey Swamp beginning at a white oak Jacob Proctor's corner then south 
89.30 west 92 poles to a stake in a branch Jacob Proctor's corner then 
up the various courses of said branch to an oak stump a corner in said 
Proctor's line then north 81 d, 30" west 55.6 rods to a pine a corner 
of the said Proctor then south 5'30" east 43.36 rods to a lightwood 
stump a corner then south 81 west 19.16 rods, to a gum a corner in the 
dower of Penelope Williford, then along the line of her dower north 244 
rods or to the run of the Mill Pond then down the run to the mill house 
then down the various courses of said mill run to an ash a corner in 
Gray Armstrong's line then easterly along said Armstrong's line 208.32 
rods to a sweet gum near a pond in Margaret Braswell's line then 
southerly along the various courses of her lines to a pine tree a 
corner in the line of Samuel Moore, dec'd then along said line south 
1'15" east 140 .92 rods to the first station, the said white oak, 
containing 340 acres, with the exception of the parts which have been 
sold and conveyed by deed bearing the same date as these presents by 
the said William Norfleet to Jacob Proctor and Orran P. Daniel & John 
Proctor, signed Wm. Norfleet, wit (J.C. Knight), acknowledged.

for $100, a tract of land beginning at a gum and oak in Tyan Cokey 
Swamp in Isaac Braswell's line then along his line and Moor's Sr. to a 
pine standing in Elza Taylor's field then along said Taylor's line 
(east) to a pine and a small branch then down the various courses of 
said branch to a white oak in the aforesaid swamp then up the various

James F. Jenkins, sheriff of Edge. Co to Robert L. Ward, by virtue of 
three writs if vend exps, one in favor of Robert H. Austin, (dec'd), 
one in favor of Jerry Batts, Adm. of John Braswell and one in favor of 
William D. Petway against Elijah Williams, tested the fourth Monday of 
Aug 1851, and me directed did expose to sale on 26 Nov 1850 a tract 
adjoining the lands of John Whitehead, Britton Williford, Theophilus 
Atkinson and others containing 200 acres, and Robert L. Ward became the

Theophilus Thomas and Thaney, his wife to Kenelm H. Lewis as Clerk and

of the monies arising from the sale of a tract of land which descended 
to the heirs at law of the late Mathew Whitehead, in trust, to hold for 
the use of said Theophilus and to turn over to said Theophilus and

Joseph J. Faithful to William Norfleet; Whereas Joseph J. Faithful of 
Edge. Co has been (recognized) to appear at the next term of the 
Superior Court for Law for said County to be held on the 2nd Monday of 
Sept next in the sum of $500 with William Peele & William Lodge and 
others security and whereas the said Joseph J. is desirous of securing 
them harmless from damages he conveys to Thomas Norfleet, Edge. Co, in 
trust all his, the said Faithful's right to the estate of the late 
James Pitt of said county consisting of monies now in the hands of 
Perry & Warren Pitt as executors of said James, his interest in the 
estate being in right of his wife, Sarah, formerly Sarah Pitt, a

Mathew Whitehead estate to David Wells; whereas at Mar Ct 1850 Mathew 
Whitehead, Polly Lancaster, Josiah Williams and wife Elizabeth John 
whitehead, James Griffin and wife Margaret, Theophilus Thomas and wife 
Thaney, Bennet Thomas and wife, Francis of full age and James H. 
Whitehead, William A. Whitehead and Nancy C. Whitehead, infants by 
their guardian, John Whitehead filed their petition in said court 
praying among other things for the sale of a tract of land on the 
Williamson Branch adjoining the lands of John Mercer, Zadock Braswell, 
Betsey Braswell and others containing 100 acres which descended to them 
as the heirs at law of their late Mathew Whitehead and at the same 
court , to wit, Mar Ct 1850, it was decreed that the Clerk and Master 
would sell said land at public auction, Kenelm H. Lewis, CME offered 
said land for sale on the premises on 15 Apr 1850 and David Wells was 
the last and highest bidder for the sum of $181, and at Sep Ct 1850,

Henry W. Armstrong, Edge. Co of the first part, Robert Johnson of the 
second part and William W. Armstrong of the third part, for $73.93 as 
security to Richard Harrison payable the last day of Jan last and 
whereas the part of the first part for the sum of 50 cents to party of 
the second part conveys to the party of the second part all his 
household , one horse, some hogs and all his standing crop of corn and 
cotton in trust , signed Henry W. Armstrong, wit R.D. Wimberly,

Robert for the benefit and use of Phereba Savage, wife of said James D. 
during her natural life provided the said James should survive her and 
in the event of her death before the said James then said Robert was to 
convey said slaves to the said James and his heirs, whereas the said 
Phereba has departed this life leaving the said James surviving her, 
said Robert conveys said slaves to said James, to wit, Luke, Jack the

1852, agreement between Charles G. Wilkinson and Penelope Abington, 
whereas Charles G. Wilkinson is desirous of reclaiming all of a portion 
of his low lands and it is necessary that he have the right or 
privilege of cutting a canal or ditch across the land now seized and 
possessed by Penelope Abington, and also control of said ditch or canal 
on the west side of Fishing Creek, he is granted six feet on each side 
of a line beginning at the junction of the ditches of Mrs. Nancy 
Wilkinson and the said Penelope then up the ditch of the said Penelope, 
along or near the boundary between the said Mary and Penelope to a 
willow oak their corner then up the said ditch across the field of the 
said Penelope to the mouth or lower terminus of a small drain where 
some dead cypresses are now standing then up the said drain along or 
near the center thereof to such point as the said Charles G. may 
select, then across another field of the said Penelope to the head of 
the more southern drain therein which empties into the Crooked Swamp 
then down the said drain along or near the center thereof to the 
boundary of the said Penelope and said Penelope shall have use of said 
canal to drain her land on the south side of the public road leading 
from Sessums Bridge by the residence of Mrs. Susan Savage by cutting

recollected, the said Jesse C. executor did obtain a judgement against 
the said Bennett B in the Court of Pleas and Quarters for about $112 
principle exclusive of interest and cost and whereas judgement is 
unpaid except the sum of $40 and whereas said Bennett B is willing to 
secure payment, the party of the first part conveyed to party of the 
third part the following property, to wit, all his stock of hogs, all 
household and kitchen furniture and his possessions not previously sold 
by execution also all his interest in a tract known as the Henry Horne 
tract being a portion of the lands formerly owned by the late Vernal 
hart, dec'd of said county and was drawn by Harriet Harte of Harriet 
Horne as the case may be which said division will more fully show, the 
said Harriet having intermarried with the said Horne, to be sold if the
