James J. Taylor and his wife, Eliza J. Taylor to Geo. Howard, for 
matters hereinafter set forth, two tracts of land formerly owned by 
Taylor, one in Wilson County on the road leading from Wilson to 
Joyner's Depot on which said Taylor now resides lying on the south side 
of Brand Swamp adjoining the lands of Hartwell Williford, Thos. C. 
Dixon, Gray Flowers, W.W. Batts, & James W. Barnes containing 150 
acres; the other tract partly in Wilson and partly in Edgecombe on the 
south side of Town Creek adjoining the lands of Silas Sharpe, Noah 
Wiggins, the heirs of James Bridgers, the heirs of Thos. Sharpe and 
Hyram Webb, containing 500 acres, also 7 mules, two horses, 2 corn 
shellers, 2 yoke of oxen, 22 head of cattle, two cotton gins, 20 head 
of hogs, brandy still, two pair balances, carpenter tools, blacksmith 
tools, farming implements & c, also one iron safe and all the crops 
grown on said lands during the year 1868; in trust, signed James J.

June 1868, Epinetus G. Armstrong, Edge. Co. to William M. Daughtridge, 
Edge. Co. for $170 a tract of land in Edge. Co. where said Epinetus 
Armstrong now resides, conveyed to him by the late Gray Armstrong on 
Nov. 16, 1867 beginning in the west line of T.(H) Griffin's land at a 
stake Eli Ricks (dec'd) corner formerly but now Robert Ricks corner 141 
yard north 18 east of the center of the avenue leading from the white 
house to Rocky Mount Depot then with said Griffin's line south 18 west 
290 yards to a corner stake from which a post oak (    ) north 64 west 
3 yards to a pine by South 1 west 6 yards then west 413 yards to a 
corner from which a pine ( ) south 61 west 8 yards to another pine (   
) north 35 ½ west 10 yards then north 19 west 507 to Robert Ricks (SW) 
corner then with Robert Ricks line south 71 east 71 yards to the 
beginning containing 22 acres, signed E.G. Armstrong, wit. W.T. Gay.

  Edge. Co. Db 30, page 73, date of deed 12 Dec. 1867, date recorded 
Feb Ct. 1868, by order of Nov. Ct. 1868, commissioners divided the land 
of the late James Stallings to his children and heirs at law, into ten 
equal parts in value, first the land was appraised for value, the first 
tract, the home or creek tract, containing 558 acres, 260 acres of 
which were covered by the dower of the widow of said Stallings, valued 
at $3622.75, the Clark or Pitt tract containing 166 acres was valued at 
$832.50, the Edwards of Causey tracts, one containing 112 acres on the 
south side of Jerrys Creek and the other containing 215 acres of both 
sides of Jerrys Creek was valued at $685 for a total value of $5140.25, 
of which a share is $514.02, the shares of the five youngest infants 
were awarded to them in common, believing this was in their best 
interest; lot # 1, being a part of the house tract containing 119 acres 
beginning in John A. (Dives) line in the Reedy Branch where a path 
crosses the same, then along said path south 52 ½ east 39 ½ poles to a 
stake near a large pine in said Davis line the corner of the dower of 
Eliza Stallings, then along said dower line south 37 west 75 poles to a 
pine another corner of her dower then south 25 ½ east 234 poles to a 
(cypress) on Town Creek then up the various courses of said creek to a 
hickory the corner of lot # 2 then along the line of lot # 2 north 17 ½ 
east 138 poles to a pine in a small branch then down said branch to the 
said Reedy Branch and then (up or across) the Reedy Branch to the first 
station, valued at $714, to (Emily) Braswell, the wife of Thos. P. 
Braswell and which is in excess of her share by the sum of ($199); lot 
# 2 being a part of the home or creek tract containing 119 acres, 
beginning at a hickory on Town Creek, the corner of lot # 1 then along 
the line of lot # 1 north 17 ½ east 133 poles to a pine in a small 
branch another corner of lot # 1 then down said branch to the Reedy 
Branch then down the various courses of the said branch to (said) Town 
Creek and then down the various courses of said creek to the beginning, 
which we valued at $476, to Martha Stallings (middle initial possibly 
L), which is $38.02 less than her full share; lot # 3 being the Edwards 
or Causey tract containing in the whole 137 acres, one tract on the 
south side of Jerrys Creek adjoining the lands of Reddin Sugg and 
others beginning at a pine J.J. (Port??) Corner in the late Abraham 
Stallings line then along said line north 178 poles to a dogwood in 
said line, John Armstrong's corner then with Armstrong's line south 89 
east 184 poles to a small pine in the Big Branch then up said branch to 
the mouth of the (Reedy) Branch then up the various courses of said 
Reedy Branch to the first station, containing 112 acres, the other 
piece containing 25 acres lying on Jerrys Creek adjoining the lands of 
B.B. Gatlin and John Armstrong beginning at the mouth of the Big Branch 
then north 4 west 140 poles along Gatling's line to his corner then 
with Gatling's other line north 89 west 44 poles to a gum in a small 
branch, Armstrong's corner then down said branch to Jerrys Creek then 
down the various courses of said creek to the first station, which two 
tracts are valued to ($685) to P.J. Stallings and which is in excess of 
his full share in the sum of $170.98; lot # 4, a part of the Clark or 
Pitt land containing 48 acres beginning in the road leading from 
Tarboro to Old Town Creek Meeting House at the corner of Wright 
Wiggin's and in the line of lot # 5 then along the line of lot # 5 
north 55 west 210 poles in Garrett's line near Clary's Branch then 
along Garrett's line south 2 west 132 ½ poles to a hickory Garrett's 
corner then south 87 east 41 ½ poles to a pine stump in James (K) 
Harper's corner then along said Harper's line south 55 east 59 poles to 
Wright Wiggin's corner, cross the public road, then along Wiggin's line 
in (      ) & the public road (inpart) a straight line to the first 
station, valued at $316.25 to Francis Thorne, the wife of Saml. H. 
Thorn and which is less than her full share by the sum of $97.77; LOT # 
5, also a part of the Clark or Pitt tract lying on the both sides of 
Jerrys Creek, containing 88 acres beginning in the said public road at 
the same beginning point described in lot # 4 then north 55 west 210 
poles to a stake in Garrett's line another corner of lot # 4 then north 
2 east (4) poles to a small gum in Clary's Branch then up the various 
courses of said branch to the mouth of a small branch then up said 
small branch to the mouth of a ditch in W.(S) Duggan's line then up 
said ditch to the said public road then south 39 ½ east 50 poles to a 
small hickory Jas. Harper's corner formerly Nettles, then along 
Harper's line south 25 west 32 poles to a stake Wright Wiggin's corner 
then with said Wiggin's line north 53 west 76 poles to the first 
station, valued $410.25, to Ann Stallings which is less than her full 
share by the sum of $97.77; the residue of lands, being a part of the 
home or creek tract, less 60 acres dower land of Mrs. Elizabeth 
Stallings beginning at a cypress on Town Creek the corner of lot # 1 
and then along the line of lot # 1 north 28 ½ east (234) poles to a 
pine another corner of lot # 1, also of the dower then along the line 
of lot # 1 and the dower aforesaid north 37 east 75 poles to John A. 
Davis' line then long said Davis' line south 52 ½ (no east-west) 40 
poles to a pine the said Davis' corner then along said Davis' and Jas. 
J. Porter's line east 125 poles to a pine stump and red oak at or near 
said Porter's corner then along said Porter's other line south 9 west 
95 poles to a pine stump at or near another corner of said Porter and 
John A. Davis corner then along the line of the said Davis south 33 ½ 
west 140 poles to a large dead pine Davis' other corner then south 34 
west 52 poles to the head of the Still Branch then down the various 
courses of said branch to Town Creek and then up the various courses of 
said creek to the first station, which was valued at $2432.75 and 
appropriated in common to Thomas Stallings, Wright Stallings, Delah 
Stallings, Dora Stallings, and Bettie Stallings, five of the infant 
heirs of said Stallings and which is less than their full share by the 
sum of $137.35, and Emily Stallings to pay $39.02 to Martha Stallings, 
$97.77 to Frances Thorn, wife of Samuel Thorn, and $64.10 to Ann 
Stallings, making in all $199.98 paid by lot # 1, and J.S. Stallings to 
pay $33.58 to Ann Stallings, and $137.35 to be paid to Thomas 
Stallings, Wright Stallings, Delah Stallings, Dora Stallings, Bettie 
Stallings, making in all $170.98, the amount charged to lot # 3, signed
