1870, John Lancaster, administrator of Prudence Lancaster to David W. 
Lancaster; whereas at the Feb Ct 1858 (NOTE DATE DOES NOT MATCH OTHER 
DATES) administration was committed to John Lancaster and an order of 
sale of the real estate of which Prudence Lancaster died seized and 
possessed was made by Jno. Norfleet, Judge of Probate for Edge. Co. on 
18 Oct 1869 and John Lancaster, as administrator did sell the real 
estate on Nov. 23 and David Lancaster became the purchaser at the price 
of $776 and elected to pay cash on 30 Dec, being an undivided one 
fourth interest in a tract of land adjoining the lands of F.M. Barnes, 
Ansy Braswell and others, containing 345 acres, being the land which 
the said Austin Whitehead devised to his boys, David, Dorsey, Willie 
and Robert, after the death of the said Prudence Lancaster and the 
share conveyed here is the interest of the said Willie Lancaster which 
he sold to his mother on 14 Feb 1849 as tenant for life of whole, 
signed (John Lancaster), wit. Fred Philips. NOTE: copy did not show 
signature but assume it was John Lancaster since he was administrator.

Nov. 1869: Appraisers return.  The undersigned having been duly 
summoned and sworn to act as appraisers of the homestead & personal 
property exemption of E.G. Armstrong of the township of Rocky Mt, 
county of Edgecombe, by Spencer Fountain, J.P. of sd. County do hereby 
make the following return.  We have valued & appraised the homestead of 
the sd. E.G. Armstrong & the dwellings & buildings thereon, owned & 
occupied by sd. E.G. Armstrong as a homestead to be $800.00 & that the 
entire tract bounded by the lands of Robt. Ricks, T.G. Griffin & others 
beginning at a stake at the south west corner of Robt. Ricks land then 
running south 71 east 700 yds to a corner in T.H. Griffin's line south 
19 west 290 yds. With sd. Griffin's line to a stake then west 400 yds 
to a stake a stake at the end of a ditch then with said ditch north 19 
west to the beginning, containing 22 acres, more of less & all 
improvements thereon is therefore exempted from sale under execution 
according to law at the same time & place.  We valued & appraised at 
the value annexed the following articles of personal property selected 
by sd. E.G. Armstrong, one mule valued $75., 17 bbls. Corn $5.00, 
85.00, corn sheller $6.00, 1 stack fodder 500 lbs $1.25, 2 turning 
plows $1.50, 3.00, 4 (fluke) do 50c, 2 shovels, 2 spades 75c, 1 cross 
cut saw 1.50, five feather beds with steads & clothing $100.00, 11 
chairs (?) $2.30, 1 bureau $2.00, 1 (chimey) press $1.00, 1 double 
barrel shotgun $15.00, 1 large kettle & shaldran $10.00, 2 tables 
$2.00, 1 lot of crocking $2.50, 1 lot cooking utensils $4.00, 2 water 
buckets $1.50, 3 looking glasses 90c, 1 cow & calf $20.00, 1 yearling 
$8.00, 2 carts & wheels $16.00, 1 cotton gin $50.00, which we declare 
to be fair valuation & that the sd. Articles are exempt under sd. 
Execution.  We hereby certify that we are not related by blood or 
marriage to the judgement debtor or judgement creditor in this 
execution & have no interest near or remote in the above exemption, 
given under our hands & seals this the 15th day of May 1869.  Signed

Mill Branch on the north side adjoining the lands of Crissy Braswell, 
Levi Lancaster and others containing 53 acres, signed Kinelin H. Lewis,

said ditch across the branch to J.H. Burnetts line then with Burnett's 
line to Church St then with said street to the beginning, except the 
Misses Newby lot which is herein included but not to be conveyed,
