Edgecombe County, NC - Deeds - Hokett,James/Dephia-1864 (Div of Henry Morgan) File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Lorene Rambo 1864 To James and Delphia Hokett and others Division of property of Henry Morgan, dec. 96 acres, valued at $1085, plus $177.50 Deeds and Mortgages of Real Estate, Edgecombe County, Book 29, Page 387 (LDS Microfilm #0370241) Pursuant to an order of Edgecombe County Court at November Term 1863. directed to the undersigned commissioners to lay off an allot the real Estate of the late Henry Morgan among the lawful heirs of the said Henry. We met upon the premises and with the assistance of Louis C. Gender found there to be three hundred sixty five and one-half acres to which we proceeded to allot and set apart by metes and bounds as follows "to wit": Lot No. 1 drawn by James Hokett and wife containing ninety six in two separate tracts acres and valued to one thousand and Eighty five dollars, one tract bounded as follows: Beginning at a Gum and Holly in Hatchers Swamp Louis C. Gender and Wm. Grays corners then along Grays line south 83 pole to small post oak Gray's other corner. Then with his other line West 104 pole to a black gum in a branch a corner of Lot No. 2. Then along the line of Lot No. 2: North 12 1/2 West 107 pole to an ash on a ditch. Then down said ditch North 25 1/2 East to the run of Hatchers Swamp. Then up the main run of said swamp to the first station containing Eighty six acres. also one other tract whereon Elisha Jones now resides containing ten acres known as part of the Jacob Braswell Land, adjoining the lands of Reddan Sherrod and the lands of the late William Bender known as the county land, and the lands of A. B. Nobles, the said ten acres of land was purchased by the late Henry Morgan from Reddan Sherrod. both tracts valued to one thousand and eighty five dollars and receives from Lot No. 2 one hundred and seventy seven dollars and a half. Lot No. 2 drawn by Mahala Morgan containing fifty eight and a half acres valued at seventeen hundred and fifty five dollars . . . Lot No. 3 drawn by F. M. Morgan containing one hundred eleven acres and valued to eleven hundred and ten dollars and received from Lot No. 2 one hundred and fifty two dollars and a half . . . Lot No. 4 . . . drawn by Elisha Jones containing one hundred acres and valued to Eleven hundred dollars and receives from lot No. 2 one hundred sixty two dollars and a half.
