Edgecombe County, NC - Deeds - Hoket, Richard to Methodist Church-1833 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Lorene Rambo 1833 From Richard Hocott To Methodist Church One acre for one dollar Deeds and Mortgages of Real Estate, Edgecombe County, Book 21, Page 253 (LDS Microfilm #0370237): This indenture made this Second day of January in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and thirty three Between Thomas Amason and Richard Hocott of the County of Edgecombe, and State of NoCarolina, of the first part, and Richard H. Turner, Starky (?) Howard of the County and State aforesaid and Thomas W. Ellis, Stephen Braswith and Jason Yelverton, of the county Wayne (?) Trustees in trust for the use and purpose here in after mentioned of the second part. Witnesseth that we the said party of first part for an inconsideration of the sum of one dollar to us in hand pay as well for and inconsideration of the good will and affection which we bear for the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church: Hath Bargained sold and conveyed unto the party of the Second part Trustees in Trust one lot of ground containing two acres one acre from each of the persons named as the first party, lying situate and being in the county of Edgecomb Beginning at the NE corner at a pine a few yards N of the main road leading from Stanstonsburg to Greenville thence south to the SE corner at a blackjack thence W to the SW corner at a blackj thence N to the NW corner at a post oak thence E to the begining containing two acres more or less unto party of the second part and there successors in office to be chosen as the discipline of said church may direct provided the party of the Second part Build or cause to be built thereon a house or place of worship for use and binifit of the members of the Methodist Episcopal church in the United States of America, and that they suffer such ministers of the Gospell to preach therein and expound Gods holy word who may be sent by the annual conference of said church and to execute and inform the discipline of said church as it now is or may be agreeded by the General conference in the United States of America. To there only proper use benifit behoof as Trustees aforesaid for the use and purposes herein mentioned, and we the said party of the first part do warrant and defend their right and title of said lot of Ground for the use and purposes herein mentioned to them and their Succesors in office to be chosen according to their discipline to be by them peaceably enjoyed with all and Singingular the appertainances thereunto belonging against the lawful claim of all and every person.
