Edgecombe County, NC - Deeds - Petition of Penellope DeLoach File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Virginia Crilley This is a petition by Penelope Ruffin DeLoach after Jesse's death (her husband). It is a very old copy...one of those white letters on black...plus the "f" for "s"..so if you see a glaring error or question, let me know! I thought maybe someone else might have this "translated" and could make corrections. To the worshipful Court of Edgecombe County. The petion of Penellope Deloach, widow and relect of Jesse Deloach late of said county, dec'd. Humbly Sheweth that whereas, the said Jesse Deloach died intestate siezed & possessed in fee simple of a certain tract of land containing (300) three hundred acres by estimation situated in said couty & on the northside of Tycokey Swamp whereon said Jesse Deloach last lived; bounded as follows (to well) Beginning at a Spanish Oak, Grices Corner tree thence runs N 60 W 350 poles to a pine, thence S 40 W 170 poles to Red Oak in said Swamp thence along said swamp S 55 E 230 poles to an oak in Grices Sine then to the beginning, together with a dwelling house , kitchen, M---- house, & other houses which land & premises your said petitioner have become intitled to her right of dower in fee?tail in tho. Therefore your said petitioner most humbly beg your worships to set a decree directing a Jury to attend on the premises for the purpose of saying of her dower agreeable to law in such case and fuirther your petitioner being intitled by purchase from two of the heirs of said tract of land to one half of the same in fee simple. Therefor your said Petitioner pray for a division of said tract of land be amongst the heirs...Heirs of the same so that your said Petitioner may be enabled to come at her part in fee simple. And your petitioner as in duty bound will pray be.... L. Ruffin for Penellope Deloach (Unfortunately there is no date on this piece of paper) As we have already seen the DeLoach and Ruffin family had numerous connections even after North Carolina. One of Penellope's brothers represented her in this matter, so I believe the L would be for Lamon. ============================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
