SOGENGAL@aol.com Edgecombe County Registry Book 8, Pages 627 & 628 State of No Carolina Edgecombe county To all to whom these presents shall come greeting Know ye that I John STOKES of the county of Edg and province aforesaid planter have bargained & sold atrack or parcel of Land containing by estimation one hundred sixty one acres & a half of land for the in consideration of one hundred pounds specie money in hand paid by Joseph RUFFIN of the county of Edgecomb planter Before the unsealing hereof well & truly paid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge & myself therewith fully satisfied & contented & paid & I do dischargethe said Joseph RUFFIN his heirs Exrs & admrs for ever & by these presents have given granted Bargained & sold aliened & confirmed & by these presents do freely & absolutely give grant bargain sell alien & confirm unto him the said Joseph RUFFIN his heirs & assigns for ever one Messuage or parcel of Land containing one hundred & sixty one & a half acres of land Be the same more or less lying & being in Edgcomb county & in the State of North Carolina Beginning at apine in a pond thence runing South one hundred and forty six pole to apine in spoile Gume picoson thence East two hundred & five pole to a pine thence north one hundred & twenty six pole to Uriah ASKEY's corner apine thence West long an agreed line of Marked trees to the first station To have & to hold the said Bargained premises for ever with the appurtenances to the same belonging or any wise appertaining with all the Houses orchards Gardens cleared grounds woods & under woods tidewater & water courses & all other liberties & privileges therein & thereunto containing to him the sd Joseph RUFFIN his heirs Exrs. & admrs. and assigns for ever & I the said John STOKES do for myself my heirs Exrs. & admrs do pronounce that before the unsealing hereof I am the true & lawful of the above Bargained premises & am lawfully seized & possessed of the same in my proper right & profit & Land absolute estate of inheritnce in fee simple & have in myself good right full proven & lawful authorityto grant Bargain sell convey confirm the said Bargained premises in manner as aforesaid to him the said Joseph RUFFIN his heirs or assigns shall & may from time to time & at all times for ever hereafter by force & virtue of these presents with all the appurtenances there unto Belonging & I the said John STOKES do warrant the said Land unto him the said Joseph RUFFIN from all manner of person or persons that shall Lay any right title or claim to the same belonging excepting the quit rents here after to become due in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & fixt my seal this (blank) day January in the year of our Lord 1790. in presence of us Wit Briton BRIDGERS Noah WIGGINS John STOKES (Seal) her Patienc E X STOKES Mark Edgecombe county} Nov Court 1796} The within Deed of sale was duly exhibited in open Court proved by the Parity of the Hand writing of Briton BRIDGERS, by William SAUNDERS, & ordered to be recorded.
