This Indenture made this 19th day of August in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and nine between Joseph John Sumner of the state of North Carolina and County of Edgecombe of the one part and Francis DuVal of the state and county aforesaid of the other part. Witnessith that the Joseph Jon Sumner for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty five pounds currency of the state aforesaid equal to two hundred and fifty dollars to him in hand paid before the insealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and himself fully satisfied contented(sp) and paid hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Francis DuVal his heirs and assigns forever one lot of half acre of land lying and being in the Town of Tarborough known and distinguished by lot marked(no.13) thirteen in the plan of the said town to have and to hold the said lot or half acre of land with its appurtenances unto him the said Francis DuVal his heirs and assigns and the said Joseph John Sumner doth by these presents bind himself his heirs and assigns to warrant and defend the said lot or half acre of land against the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever unto him the said Francis DuVal his heirs and assigns forever.
