This Indenture made this eighteenth day of August in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and nine between Joseph John Sumner of the Town of Tarborough of the one part and Francis DuVal also of the Town of Tarborough of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Joseph John Sumner for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars to him in hand paid by the said Francis DuVal before the execution of these presents, the said lot of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto him the said Francis DuVal one certain lot or half acre of land actually lying and being in the said Town of Tarborough and known in the plat thereof by the number or figure(24) twenty four which is situate a dwelling house and other buildings together with all the said houses out houses fences, gardens ways and water appurtenances and to the said lot belonging or in anywise appertaining and also all the estate right title interest claim and demand of him the said Joseph John Sumner of in and to the said lot of land and every part thereof with the appurtenances to have and to hold the said lot of land and promises to him the said Francis DuVal his heirs and assigns to the only proper use of him the said Francis DuVal his heirs and assigns forward and he the said J. J. Sumner for himself his heirs executors and admiss(sp) will warrant and forever defend to said Francis DuVal his heirs and assigns the said bargained promises against the lawful claim or demand of all persons whomsoever. In witness whereof the said J. J. Sumner hath here unto set his hand and seal at Tarborough the day and year above written. Signed sealed and delivered in presence of Jesse Thorpe Allan Cooper Jos.
