January 22, 1940 Dear Mother, Will this afternoon drop you just a few words to let you hear from us. We are well as usual all but the baby, he had a hot fever last night, in fact he's been partly sick every sence I moved. But it is a wonder that we are not all sick for I call we moved out of the house out of doors this old house is nearly all to smash and it just rains in two of the rooms. I really mean I liked to froze to dath the day we moved. When we got here we had to send and get a heater and put it up to have any fire at all. There isn't any fireplaces here at all so you may know I sure was a cold. Well Dora and her girls are the only ones that have been to see me yet they say people around here don't visit and I sure believe it. Well we are just about 3 miles from Greenville. I can see people going along the highway that leads from the Greenville highway to packtolos but I think I will like it down here all right, I do so far. It seems like home again to be living by myself. But I sure had bad luck the day I moved. Sidney lost my feather bed bolster pillows and Pa's picture, one sheet, one blanket and my rubber sheet it was the bed Mrs. Windham gave us so I haven't even got no bolster now to lay my head on. I liked to cryed when I looked for my bed and it was gone. Well it sure did snow pretty Sat. it is not all gone down here. I left that big sleet and when I got here there was just a little ice on the door steps and that was about all it seemed funny to see it that way. Well Jimmie and Mr. Baker has been working on their plant beds today well I guess I have told you all I know so I had just well to stop by saying tell Lucy hayo and for her to write and come to see me all the rest.
