Edgecombe County NC "THE EDGECOMBE BOYS" COMPANY E 43rd REGIMENT File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by JWebb65865@aol.com Jo Webb NORTH CAROLINA CIVIL WAR TROOP "THE EDGECOMBE BOYS" ……COMPANY E 43rd REGIMENT This company, known as the "Edgecombe Boys," was raised in Edgecombe County and was enlisted in January-February, 1862. It was mustered in at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, April 2, 1862, for three years or the duration of the war and was assigned to the 43rd Regiment as Company E. After joining the regiment the company functioned as a part of the regiment, and its history for the remainder of the war is reported as a part of the regimental history. The information contained in the following roster of the company was compiled principally from a company muster in and descriptive roll dated April 2, 1862, and from company muster rolls for May, 1862 - February, 1865. No company muster rolls ere found for April 3 - April 30. 1862, and for the period after February 1865. Valuable information was obtained from primary records such as the North Carolina adjutant general's Roll of Honor, discharge certificates, medical records, prisoner of war records, and pension applications. Secondary sources such as postwar rosters and histories, cemetery records, and records of the United Daughters of the Confederacy also provided useful information.
