Edgecombe County, NC - George Avery Revolutionary War Pension, 1830 ~~~~~~~~~~ March 20, 1933 Mr. James W. Chandler Stein Bros. & boyce Starks Building Arcade Louisville, Kentucky Dear Sir: Reference is made to your request for the record of George Avery, a soldier of the Revolutionary War. The data contained herein were obtained from the papers on file in pension claim W.8335 based upon the Revolutionary War service of George Avery. The date and place of soldier's birth and names of his parents are not shown in the claim. He enlisted in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, in August 1782, served as a private in Captain Peter Bacot's Company, Colonel Archibald Lytle's North Carolina Regiment, was engaged in no battles and served until about August 1, 1783. After the Revolution the soldier lived in Edgecombe County, North Carolina for four or five years then moved to North Fork of the Holston River in Virginia where he remained one year; then to Lincoln County, Kentucky, where he lived one year; from thence to Davidson County, Tennessee where he resided eight or nine years and from there to Wilson County, Tennessee. He was allowed pension on his application executed November 1, 1830 while a resident of Wilson County, Tennessee. In 1832 he was still living in Wilson County, Tennessee, aged about sixty-eight years. George Avery married in Pitt or Edgecombe County, North Carolina about 1784, 1787 or 1788, Elizabeth Allen. Soldier's widow, Elizabeth, was allowed pension on her application executed February 10, 1854 at which time she was living in Wilson County, Tennessee and stated that she was aged ninety-five years. In 1855 she stated she was aged about ninety years with no explanation of the discrepency. A large family of children was referred to but no names designated. Very truly yours, A.D.
